Stephan Lichtsteiner spoke candidly about the Bianconeri’s task ahead following this evening’s 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Swiss full-back, who came back into the starting line-up after being rested in Saturday’s success over Roma, believes it is imperative the team emerge victorious from their upcoming Champions League encounters, starting with the trip to Nordsjælland.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Lichtsteiner said: “It was important to get the three points this evening and we weren’t able to do so. Now we must win our next games. I felt we were lacking the usual aggression in the first ten minutes and managed little of what we had prepared in the build-up to the game.”
But the 28-year-old believes there are plenty of positives to take from the Bianconeri’s improved display following the restart.
“We then grew in stature, especially in the second half when we put in a good performance. Shakhtar’s strength is in their play, we should have kept a tighter grip on them. When we pressed them and pinned them back we gave them difficulties.”
