Easy big fella. He was terrible when first joining, made more mistakes in defense then any other we had. Barzagli and chiellini often made him look better than he ever was. He wasn't shit but was rarely exceptional. He had certain qualities that were important for our tactics under conte and allegris first spell.
He had qualities that made him the perfect fit for Chiellini. His long range passing for example is among the best for any central defender in the last 20 years. He also added some much needed flair on the ball overall. Combine that with a less technically gifted but more gritty Chiellini, who never makes mistakes and you're golden.

Agree. Bonucci was a good defender, but it was his other attributes that allowed him (and the club) to be very successful. It wasn't simply marking or tackling, he brought a lot more to the table and fortunately for us it was timed perfectly with prime Chiellini and the flawless Barzagli at the same team. They were the perfect back 3.

History section though, guy's a wank

He is only lucky that Caldara turned out to be one of the biggest let downs when it comes to Calcio future stars. If Mattia could fulfill his potential and we would be stuck with Bonucci he would get hated twice as what he gets now. Now we can only hate him for his antics, but it turned out his return was worth it in the end. Just please kindly fuck off now.
