Yeah, thats only in the minds of the biased Juventus fans, not a serious statement. Caldara may have been in a top 5 young(ish) cb`s in the league, but no way in hell a 24y old Caldara playing at Atalanta was better than a 23y old Romagnoli who now captains Milan or a 23y old Skriniar who played in every single Serie A game for merda and eventually helped them qualify for the CL.
Caldara was and probably still is a player with potential but is waaay waay behind an already established and younger defenders like Romagnoli and Skriniar. Just saying...

Besides bonucci's shitshow he created with his move to milan, he indeed seems and performs worse
It could just be that we watch him differently after all of that, but in any case, what the major fuckup is, is that his move forth-and-back screwed the whole process of our migration from chiello-bon-barza to a new defense setup imo, regardless of caldara, benatia (or anyone) and who would have been a starter and/or star CB.

The fanfare which greeted his arrival there and the surprise around the world that he moved to Milan would indicate that he was a star.
In terms of performance, i really don’t think they have declined much, comparing this season and previous seasons with him playing in a back 4.
He was always liable to fairly regular brain fades, his positioning wasn’t great in a two, he said dumb things in interviews and had good distribution of the ball.
We obviously have to keep him now, so it’s crucial we bring in a centre back that could complement him as Chiellini will be 35 and we can’t expect him to be injury free and no one except the opposition wants to see any more of the Rugani Bonucci pairing.
