Well, everyone still is entitled whether we agree with it or not.

Remember the days with the likes of nedved96 and vialli92 in Allegri's thread, if they were somehow entitled to an opinion there then what is really to expect in this guy's thread, honestly.

Although I was never keen on the idea of exchanging anyone not named Higuain for Bonucci, I have to ask this question, and maybe there is someone here who has watched Caldara for the last 2 seasons on a regular basis.

How do we know that Caldara is better than Rugani for Juventus when the former has spent the last 2 years in a 3 man backline for Atalanta, while the latter has played 46 matches during that same span, at the same age mind you, in both a 3 man and 4 man backline?

The truth is, we don't know. Now, if the situations were reversed and Caldara was here for 2 years and THEN got sent to Milan, then I would be grabbing my pitchfork and torch with the rest of you.

I've seen a few Atalanta games where Caldara was performing admirably. But there's absolutely no indication he's better than Rugani in anything. In fact, the only clear advantage is for Rugani's passing which is waaay much better. Rugani also, as you mentioned, has experience in a 3 and 4-man backline and has featured more in UCL and international level.

I would've preferred we keep both since our other defenders are all above 31, but well there is plusvalenza.

Trust me, I would certainly not have minded keeping Caldara and figuring out a better way. I just really think that it has more to do with Caldara being exchanged for Bonucci than anything else.

This move tells me one thing - we are going all in for this CL. Ronaldo probably has only one or two seasons of his best in him and we need players who are ready to take advantage of that window. Is this a healthy perspective for a football club to have? Does any other club obsess over the CL in the same way we do? It feels as though not winning the CL with Ronaldo would be a monumental catastrophe. That kind of pressure can force players and staff to make mistakes and this looks like the first.

Your concerns are valid.

Then again, a window of opportunity opened up and will last for 2-3 years. We took Ronaldo from an aging Real team. Barcelona lost Iniesta, Bayern's star wingers are older and slower. They will need time to re-group, and these 2-3 years seem like our best chance to win the CL.
Are we that desperate? Yes, we all are, from Agnelli, through Allegri and Chiellini, to you and me. The CL is pretty much what we're playing for after 7 straight scudetti.
Chances are big that we won't win it. Luck plays a big part in that competition. But chances will be much bigger with Ronaldo and Bonucci. If there is time to gamble and even go all in, it's this summer.

In regards to Bonucci, we all know that quality defenders don't always make a working defense. Caldara might turn a better defender than BonBon in the future, but Bonnuci was part of a working defense. We made it far in CL twice with Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli and Buffon. Last year the defense betrayed us. 12 goals in 10 CL matches is not acceptable. With Buffon leaving too and Barzagli being way too old, we are literally desperate for Bonucci to come back.

So, yeah, we are gambling. If we lose, it's gonna be bad as it always is when you go all in and lose. But I feel that we have the best hand and it's the right time to go all in.

I think this season is our best chance to win the CL. Real Madrid have taken a step back. They wont replace Ronaldo until they get Neymar which wont happen this year so they wont reinforce the squad adequately. Barca have bought in depth players, they're more or less the same(thank god they dint sign Griezmann), Bayern are doing nothing on the market. Meanwhile Pool, City and Atletico have all strongly reinforced. PSG are there or thereabouts. I think this is the season where the Real-Barca hegemony breaks and i hope we're the club to do it. Another top mid would've been nice though which would have increased our chances even more.

Rugani is the bigger talent. If Rugani doesn't become an absolute world class defender I'd be quite surprised. Rugani has been the best Italian player in his age bracket throughout his footballing career. Caldara made his name much later on. Having said that I'd like to keep both but if I had to choose I would keep Rugani 100%.

Tuz has this habit of expecting way too much of any new "youngster" that comes in. It was the same with Rugani, Pjaca etc. So it's not surprising that people are angry at the thought of losing him.

I'm just mad we ruined Giovinco. If we hadn't wrecked his career by playing him as a target man, we would have no need for Ronaldo, because Gio would be leading us to CL glory right now.

No need for Ronaldo = no need for Bonucci - Caldara swap.

There's nothing wrong per se with rating Caldara over Rugani... just the strangeness of acting like he is some guarantee to be the better of the two. Dude hasn't even played in a back 4 yet. Let alone for a top team.
