He still has the highest value relative to how much we actually need him, on this squad. If you sell him to City for 80M and replace him with Rugani, then what are you losing?
The caveat, of course, is that you have to invest in the attack and take pressure off the defence. I'm confident that Rugani-Caldara will be good enough in the future to hold the back line if you have a great team in front.
I would like to shift our focus from relying on defenders and you can start here. We've seen countless times now that Bonucci is not good enough to stop the absolute best attackers like a 2006 Cannavarro. But then again, nowadays, who is? I can't really blame him to be honest, it's much more difficult to defend even in the 10 years since 2006.
But that still leaves the opportunity to cash in and switch the focus of the team. And it's something I would think about.

Building around defenders is like saying you have the best coast guard team, they save 95% of the people who fall into the dangerous river. While other teams just build a dam.

We have a ready made replacement in Rugani. Benatia and Barzagli are here as backups, an if someone wants to pay that 60 million for a 30 year old defender, then so be it. e could use that money where we really need it.

Why are people talking like we need to sell him for financial reasons?

If we need to sell after such income season, then we might as well forget about winning the CL ever again, cause we wont make the final every year and that means selling a player every year to compensate for another buy.

And selling Bonucci because we have a much younger, cheaper and a player with a higher ceiling in Rugani is different than selling Bonucci because we are broke. Selling Bonucci would give us even more money to spend on our weaknesses on this team.

But I don't think that the final is the reason we would sell him. I think that teams that are willing to pay upwards of 60 million for him when we already have a ready made replacement in Rugani would be the reason why.

Option on Benatia was picked up cause Allegri trusts more experienced Benatia in case injury or suspension for starting CD, compared to Rugani. Im talking here especially big games, CL nights. And we are one of the few teams in the world who plays 3 CDs.
I dont like the idea of considering Benatia as starting material. He is injury prone. He isnt going to last full season.

I'd put Bonucci up on the market as well, wouldn't sell for anything below 70mil. Rugani has already been introduce to the squad nicely and I think he's ready to take over full time, Bonucci had his time. I love the man, was hoping he'd score a legendary goal on Saturday, unfortunately things didn't turn out.
Kante+20mil and he can be reunited with Conte.
Bonucci adds a great deal to our team. His passing ability and composure on the ball are unrivaled among our current CBs, would hate to lose him. Benatia is the only one that can offer some of that long-passing ability that Bonucci possesses. Anyways don't see there being any chance him of leaving this summer thankfully as he just recently signed a contract extension.
