He obviously couldn't play midfielder because he's too lanky and long legged to deal with exchanges, which is what gets him in trouble in the first place. Just as few shorter CM players can play DC to a sufficiently high standard for a team of our level.

The defense becomes vulnerable whenever we're without one of the usual trio. It shows how important the unit is compared to individual quality of the defenders. But the vulnerability becomes way too obvious when the missing player is Barzagli.

Bonucci's absence though is the only one of the trio that actually strengthens the back. I still don't get why Conte is still sticking to this idiot while either playing Ogbonna our of position or not playing him at all.

To me the question of whether he's a starter or not has passed. He's not.

Now the question is whether we can sell him for 12M+ before teams around the world realize he's quite shit despite getting playing time on the "great Italian teams" of Juventus and the Azzurri.
