Bonucci is fine. He's lost because Motta is beside him and he's shit. Bonucci is looking around like "why am I by myself". On their 3rd goal it's simple marking. Bonucci covers the front and Motta covers the man. Unfortunately the ball went over his head but that's why the RB covers the man. Motta was nowhere.

Yep, I said as much in the match thread, but with young players we are going to concede a fair few this season, I am looking for improvement and it can't get much worse than today.

Think everyones being a bit hard here. I didn't really see any huge slip ups. I wouldn't want to a be playing next to a full-back who was getting absolutely slaughtered either. He had to cover for Motta for nearly the whole game.

Nah.

One CB should be in front and the other should take the man.

Chiellini was in front and so Bonucci should have been with the man.

What would be the point in having a cuple of big CBs if you aren't going to get either of them to mark the striker?

Chiellini was at the front post somewhere. It was Bonucci and Motta sandwiching Pozzi. Bonucci clearly looked over to Motta after the goal was scored like WTF.

when the ball comes from your side as a Cb you go towards the front post, that is what Chiellini did
the other Cb should be in the middle, picking up the man, taht is what Bonnuci should have been doing

BUT

the full back on the opposite side should be tucked in picking up any runner to the back post and allowing the CB to concentrate on the man,Motta failed to do this and Bonnuci was caught flatfooted. neither covered themselves in glory but Bonnuci was almost certainly caught in two minds due to Motta being out of position

Almost regardless of the position of forwards, if the cross is comes in between the posts, one of the CBs should be heading it away.

the only good point of the defensive display is that there is room for improvement

The shape of the team was okay, for the most part.

It was individual errors, rather than collective disorganisation that caused the problems..

Bonucci got a part of the blame surely.. But the main part is where is Motta everytime there is a cross from the left.. In Samp first chance also, when Pozzi lay down a header to Cassano and Cassano shot blocked by Storari foot, Motta is nowhere to be seen.. Apart from when us going forward, i rarely see any decent tackle or covering done by Motta
