Correct me if I'm wrong, but as a central defender, shouldn't Bonucci at least challenge the other team's attempted headers when defending corners?
It seems like a recurring event with him.
He never attacks the ball. He doesn't have the instincts of a CB, that's why he plays sweeper.

We'll ignore Barzagli standing there marking no one as well, I guess.

This is simply where zonal marking falls flat, especially when there is a 'swarm' attempt from a set piece or cross.

chiello and barza were standing between the corner and the opposition players, at an angle closer to our post, with chances to intercept the ball,
bonucci was the only one standing behind them, not covering anyone, also watch minute 87 and see him try to mark suarez with the same characteristic way...
o boy, he will never learn how to defend...

I'm sure you can see the man behind Bonucci, he's covering the far post. If he doesn't it's a free header.

I'm also sure that moment in the 87th minute was in excellent context, against one of the best 1 v 1 players in the world.

Nope. Barzagli was marking Giminez. Parolo wasn't marking anyone so Italy were already a man short at marking (without Marchisio) and then Bonucci left his man (Godin) alone which made it a 4 vs 2 for the header.
another angle.
