    Club World Ranking:

Glasgow Celtic FC lead for the first time !
UNAM Ciudad de México - the World's Club Team of the Month for June 2004

CA Boca Juniors reached the final of the Copa Libertadores by means of penalty kicks/shoot-out, but still lost its leadership in the Club World Ranking. In the month of June the team from Buenos Aires lost two matches and drew three in international competition and in the Primera División of Argentine. The semi-finalist of the Copa Libertadores, São Paulo FC, was not able to take advantage of this situation, because the Brazilian club lost three matches in June. So Glasgow Celtic, without having played, moved to the top of the Club World Ranking for the first time. The Scotsmen gained still of a sensationally high number of points in August 2003, which will not be deleted for another two months.

The deletion of points from June 2003 has also meant that no club among the "Top 21" has kept its place in the Club World Ranking, And, because of the European Championship of Nations and the summer break in many European countries, many clubs did not play. Those teams that have improved considerably in June 2004 in the Club World Ranking, are Atlético Nacional Medellín, Goias ES, CD Toluca and Dalian Shide. The Chinese (102th) are ahead of Al-Ittihad Jeddah (122nd/Saudi Arabia) and the best-placed Asian club in the Club World Ranking.

The World's Club Team of the Month of June is UNAM Ciudad de México. "Pumas" won the Mexican championship, was unbeaten in the last nine matches and improved by 58 places in in the Club World Ranking.

In the "Top 100" there are clubs from 35 countries: 27 clubs from the CONMEBOL, three from the CONCACAF, one from the CAF and 70 from the UEFA. The following leagues are represented by the most clubs in the "Top 100": Spain (10), France (9), Brazil (8), Italy (7), England (6), Argentine (5), Germany (5), and Turkey (4).

Juventus have been top 16 times...so maybe your right hehe.

    ...but, from their web site-

Extract of the Statutes of the IFFHS

    Foundation:
The "International Federation of Football History & Statistics" (IFFHS) was founded on March 27th, 1984 in Leipzig and is registered at the Royal Danish State Office. The achievement of the statutory purpose of the IFFHS is in agreement with the current FIFA statutes.
    Objectives:
IFFHS is concerned with a chronological documentation of the international soccer on a scientific basis as well as the authentic world records achieved in the various aspects of soccer. To comply y with their international objectives, IFFHS also conducts global surveys and determines world rankings every year.

    Structure:
The highest body of the IFFHS is the Executive Committee, consists of a maximum of 20 persons. Included in which are the president and two vice-presidents. Members of the Executive Committee should be, if possible, of different nationality. All other persons have an uniform status as IFFHS member. Each FIFA member (country) should be represented by a minimum of one expert, however more important soccer countries by a maximum of four experts. Countries in which a national association for soccer history and/or for soccer statistics already exists, can be represented at IFFHS by that organization, only in the case required expert knowledge is available.

    Appointment/Votings:
Members of the Executive Committee must not only have special and linguistic qualifications, but also organizational talents, a variety of different contacts and an extensive and non-remunerated readiness for use. In accordance with these conditions new members of the Executive Committee could be nominated by the already existing Executive members from a pool of candidates. Members of the Executive Committee who have not fulfilled their various tasks for quite some time will be dismissed and replaced. This can take place every year. The Executive Committee will elect their president and both vice-presidents. This election will take place every five years.

    Membership:
Members should be experts fulfilling the required conditions. They can be recommended by national committees or other members or they can apply themselves for their nomination. They will have a "provisional membership" to be changed into a "regular membership" after satisfactoryly having complied with assigned tasks. Members of each continent will elect their best qualified candidates for a period of five years. From this pool of candidates the nominations for the Executive Committee will be made. Continental members already sitting in the Executive Committee will not be taken into consideration for these continental selections.
Active membership is free. Every member will receive all IFFHS publications, which are mainly in four languages (English, Spanish, French, German), free of charge. Members who do not fulfill their tasks, will lose their membership status and will be replaced by another countryman. To call for any extraordinary meeting approval of the president and of one of the vice-presidents is required.

    Character:
IFFHS will not accept any political, military, religious, ethnical and/or national influences and will be guided by FIFA and UNO regulations regarding these matters.

    FIFA/IFFHS:
The activities of IFFHS are in agreement with the actions and guidelines of FIFA for the statistical information (reproduction) of the world of soccer. IFFHS makes every effort for a regular, informal, special exchange of informations for the above mentioned purpose. With that general and specific aspects should be covered and a conformity of all contents which are relevant for both sides should be achieved as well.

This one is based on a rolling average, unlike others who just seem to ask people in the office who they think are the best teams this month...only kidding (about the last part).

Now...leave me alone to wallow in my euphoria...this doesn't happen often people:dontcare:

    ...and again:-

"The strongest National League of the World 2002"

The Italian Serie A is again the best League in the World!

Since 1991 the strongest leagues in the world have been determined annually - in a totally objective way - by using the sole principle of the Club World Ranking, which includes all national and international results from 1st January to 31st December. This principle has proved to be a very sensitive indicator of the relevant standard and performance of the leagues. The most important features of the 2003 ranking are as follows:
    1) Italy's Serie A, after a 3-year-break, is again the strongest league of the world, for the 9th time in total. The Spanish Primera División lost its top spot after 3 years, principally because of the weakness of the FC Barcelona. If "Barça" had achieved their average total over the previous years, the Spanish league would be still top.

    2) For the first time in more than hundred years a recognized championship league was organized in Brazil. This development draws together the most powerful teams and an increase in performance is to be expected. But the real increase in the performance of the Brazilian Serie A should be only become discernible at the end of 2004. Although many hundreds of Brazilians and Argentineans play in foreign countries, their home leagues remain extremely strong.

    3) The drop in the performance of the German Bundesliga, which only just hangs on to last place of the so-called "Top seven", is marked. The French Première has caught up far more than the figures show. Matches involving teams from these two leagues invariably saw the French teams come out the better in every case. Yet the German Bundesliga has the highest percentage of foreign players.

    4) The leagues from the Netherlands, Portugal and Scotland improved their performances and returned to the "Top ten"; the Greek, Czech, Mexican and Chilean leagues all lost out on performances. Nevertheless, all the national leagues in the 2nd best group on performance take the 8-21 places en bloc. So there is no relegation or promotion between the three top groups on performance.

    5) Denmark (22nd) leads the 3rd best group on performance; the Norwegians and Finns have improved while the Swedish Allsvenska (52nd) slid out of the "Top 50" for the 1st time. National leagues showing positive movement are those from Croatia, Hungary, Nigeria, Morocco, Cameroon, Tunisia, Slovenia, Zambia and Eire, but those from Israel, Austria, Algeria, Costa Rica, Iran, Japan, South Africa, Iraq and India dropped back. Among the "Top 50" are 2003 seven new national leagues.

Lots of interesting info, thanks Rover!

I still don't get how Celtic managed to get on top of the first list.

    Last month Celtic were 4th.

However (as is written in the second post) the teams above them lost.....remember Celtic won 25 league games in a row from August till April, had home wins over Lyon, Anerlecht, Barcelona, and a draw against Bayern Munich in European matches.
They also won the Scottish Cup...all ranking tournaments for points.:D
