I was just wondering,
My sister has been complaining about her laptop batteries, she has an Acer laptop with Li-Ion Batteries. The laptop is about 7 months old.

Now I know they are supposed to be the best batteries for Laptops, well at least theya are better than Nicads n Nimh, but it seems that her laptop drains out of battery after only a bit below 1 hour, which is much too fast.

The laptop is using a celeron processor so that contributes a bit to the fast drainage, but is it normal for a celeron laptop to drain so quickly? Not even 1 hour?

My laptop uses Centrino and on full power, using graphics or playing games like NFSU 2 it still last about 1.5 hours and on normal almost 3 hours. But my laptop is almost 2 years old the baterries arent what they're used to be.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to take care of Laptop Batteries? May be some experience. Like people have mentioned things like if you are on electrical power you should remove your batteries and like if you charge a battery it should be until full and then must be also used until empty(memory effect, although doesnt effect LI-Ion). I feel bad for my sister coz I picked the laptop for her and since the very begining the batteries were less than satisfactory. Plus she's out of the country so I cant help take care of it.

..

Batteries indeed are a pain.

I have a Compaq Presario 1500 Laptop. The battery used to last around 2 hours and a half. After 2 years and half using it, it last now only 20 minutes :groan:

First off, Pentium Mobile exists for a reason, Celeron chips are insanely power intensive. I had a Celeron notebook before, it's now 2 years old and the battery is good for an hour tops. Last year I bought a Centrino (Pentium M) notebook and the battery is good for up to 3 hours (with non-intensive use and power scaling).

Maybe you can get a battery that lasts longer but I don't think you'll be able to improve the performance much. Celeron chips are sold with cheap laptops, because they drain power, they overheat easily and the cooling fans make noise. Just not well suited to laptops I'm afraid.

Yeah thats what I was afraid of, I thought at first perhaps the batteries were somewhat leaking or damaged, but I did some research and found that Celeron are infact insanely power intensive, jeez, to think its realatively new and it doesnt last 1 hour, that'll teach me to be more carefull when buying a cheap laptop.
I thought of everything my sister might need in the laptop but forgot to pay attention to the batter duration with the celeron processor, I thought probably 1.5 - 2 hours, but damn, 1 hour is sh!t.
I guess I gotta think of someway my sis can maximize the duration.

A spare would definately help :D
But im looking for tips to make batteries more long lasting. My own batteries are still pretty good, but I think that might also be due to the fact that I sometimes discharge the batteries completely before recharging (ofcourse unintended, Im just rather sloppy and tend to forget to charge until the next morning I found out that its drained and turned off :D luckily it is actually a good thing)

I have heard that if you want to use the laptop on electrical outlet power (AC power, not Batteries) that its best to just take out the batteries.
Do you know if this is true?
