It's more like that Barcelona been carrying Messi. No other team in the world you could walk most of the game, get alot scoring chances while rest of the team is doing the work for you. That 70% posession is the key factor in there, it leaves 30% for the opponent team to "attack" so Barcelona doesn't really need to defend that much, which is luxury for whole team because they have couple free passengers around there, who really ain't tracking back, Messi being the biggest of them. If Messi was ever going to play for a counter attacking team with 35% posession, firstly that 65% of the game he would be totally useless, secondly his stamina wouldn't be enough to play that type of football and thirdly, his team would suffer big time from that walking/jogging because they're without the ball most of the time and they would need all the players to secure their asses. In Argentina, you've got to play with what you got and his stats are absolute terrible for a world class player and it just proves it for me, that he is more of a product of a system or let's say, not versatile enough to play for most of the systems, so calling him the guy who carries that team, while contributing zero work defensively and not producing on the big moments as much he's producing against the smaller teams, is just arrogant. Every single Km he walks, somebody is there to cover it and since it's a team game and his team is allowing him to play the way he currently is, he should be thankful everytime he walks on the pitch.
