Barca so shit against Bilbao first half. If Messi doesn't get the Ballon for carrying that team, they should scrap the award.
It's more like that Barcelona been carrying Messi. No other team in the world you could walk most of the game, get alot scoring chances while rest of the team is doing the work for you. That 70% posession is the key factor in there, it leaves 30% for the opponent team to "attack" so Barcelona doesn't really need to defend that much, which is luxury for whole team because they have couple free passengers around there, who really ain't tracking back, Messi being the biggest of them. If Messi was ever going to play for a counter attacking team with 35% posession, firstly that 65% of the game he would be totally useless, secondly his stamina wouldn't be enough to play that type of football and thirdly, his team would suffer big time from that walking/jogging because they're without the ball most of the time and they would need all the players to secure their asses. In Argentina, you've got to play with what you got and his stats are absolute terrible for a world class player and it just proves it for me, that he is more of a product of a system or let's say, not versatile enough to play for most of the systems, so calling him the guy who carries that team, while contributing zero work defensively and not producing on the big moments as much he's producing against the smaller teams, is just arrogant. Every single Km he walks, somebody is there to cover it and since it's a team game and his team is allowing him to play the way he currently is, he should be thankful everytime he walks on the pitch.

I agree that Messi is much more of a system player nowadays that he's become lazier and lost some pace. A younger Messi would have been fine in a more counterattacking system, like he was in 14/15 for example.

However you slice it though, Barca the past two seasons without Messi would have been competing for fourth most likely and probably finising around 60-65 points. To say that Barcelona has carried Messi more than the other way is nonsense.

This is so funny this is the same Barcelona that Hammered real madrid twice without messi being on the pitch in the last year and they just spent another fortune on world class players in De jong and Greasyman etc. the squad they have is better than most teams on the planet.

Ter stegen has probabaly been the best keeper in the world the last number of years and ive lost count how many points and games he won them and Sureaz bangs in 30 to 40 goals a year aswell. Messi is class but the nonsense that he carries 10 pieces of wood every year is a joke when he fails more often than not away from the nou camp.

They have a decent team on paper and seem to do well enough in bigger games without Messi, but they look hopeless whenever they play against lesser opposition without Messi like today.

Younger Messi used to carry his teams with the individual brilliance back in day for sure, but as we speak, we speak about the 32yr old version which really isn't much more than a player who can produce nice stats as long as everything is made for him and that's mostly against those lower budget teams, with deep defending and zero attacking so Messi can literally patrol in the attacking zone for the most of the game. If it ain't like that, like Barca having the ball 50-55% of the game and enemy is full of quality to convert those chances and Messi walking, jogging down to middle instead of being in the attacking zone, there goes whole Messi straight into the toilet. We can take a look into Argentina and how Messi looks in there compared to Barca and the difference is ridiclous. There shouldn't be such a big gap between the shirts of a same player, unless there was something more in it. But let's say it in this way, there's alot of players in this world who are relying on a system in order to shine, Messi being probably the most effective of them so that's an accomplished in it's own way, but nowhere near the fact that he's the one that carrying those teams because it couldn't be further from the truth and it's same with all those players.

That's such a stupid claim to say Barca would have finished with 60-65 points without Messi because Messi is there and that means every single transfer, coach etc are brought in for him. They have freaking 10x bigger budget than those teams with 60-65 points so they will never be fighting for those spots, but if you can't spend the money for the players which would improve your squad in general instead of improving Messi's game, then you will have problems just like we've seen. If Barca actually sold Suarez, Alba, Busquets etc now from the old core and started to invest into the future, even if Messi would be little less involved into the game or less happy due his best friends being gone, it would be the right thing to do but they cannot do it, just because how unhappy Messi would be. They're just waiting Messi to be in the situation where he decides the leave Barca or retire and Suarez and co. will still be there and their fans will be blaming their 8th coach in 5 seasons for that. I'd actually be happy if they brought in Neymar for MSN being back, a Brazil comedian with overweighted Suarez and walking Messi, they would probably be happier than ever to be together but it would be just a disaster on the pitch but who cares, as long as your buddies are around.
