Benzema has always been underrated for stupid reason. Or because he couldn't shine enough next to Ronaldo. The guy has basically 150 goals on 300 matches. He was also great for Lyon.
Benzema is easily 2010s most underrated forward from a top club from Europe's top 5 leagues and it's not even close.

He has scored 222 goals in 462 matches for Real Madrid and is currently 6th highest scorer ever with better goal-per-game ratio than Raúl. He also contributed 48 UCL-goals in 92 games for Real Madrid. Benzema used to be a reliable 20-goals-a-season scorer for multiple seasons, which is exceptional for few reasons.

- Not taking penalties & free-kicks.
- Had to compete with Higuain/Adebayor for playing time.
- Became 3rd scoring option once Bale arrived to the club.

It wasn't until when Zidane used crossing system to accommodate an aging Cristiano (who transitioned into a poacher) alongside with giving Benzema a new role to make space for others that his goalscoring production started to decline. Benzema's shots attempts per game also took also a nosedive. From 3.6 shots per game when Benzema made 24 LaLiga goals to suddenly only 5 LaLiga goals by taking 2 shots per game.

It's comparable of what happened with Dybala. From 3.5 shots per game when Dybala made 22 Serie A goals last season to 5 Serie A goals by taking 2.1 shots per game.

Anyway, Benzema is having an fantastic season by single-handedly preventing a heavily underperforming Real Madrid to finish outside top 4 in LaLiga. He's the only player for them who made LaLiga goals in double digits.
