He'll go back to LWB soon, which is a shame

We have so many great midfielders but it's impossible to utilise more than 3 of them right now.
but offcourse, there is the 4-1-3-1-1RED© formation !

Buffon

Lichtsteiner - Barzagli - Chiellini - Asamoah

Pirlo

Vidal - Pogba - Marchisio

Tevez

Llorente

A thing to consider here, is that we could Ogbonna as a LB, and Asamoah could be rotated with Pogba or Vidal

Or Marchisio could warm the bench for the rest of the team, especially on those cold nights.

He is essential for the formation.

You need 1 covering holding midfielder, so that vidal, pogba and tevez and press aggressively. Basically, you'd form 3 layers of defence

First there are the 3 pressing players
Then, marchisio and pirlo, positionning to block out passing routes, effectively making the opponent's central offensive midfielder hard to reach (what how bayern killed barcelona last year), and after that there is a 4man backline

- - - Updated - - -

but the true added value, is that marchisio is excellent at shutteling the midfield.

That basically means, slotting into positions to keep the form (as in covering for pressing players or taking over the hole the marauding fullback leaves) basically, mending the formation, but in attack, helping the ball get forward with good link up play.
For the peasant, that last part means positionning between asamoah tevez and pirlo, and helping the ball get forward with short simple passes, or cross flank switches.

Marchi boy is too physically weak for such a role.

I wonder how it was possible for Bayern to win CL last season when they didn't have Marchisio.
They didnt have xavi, iniesta and fabregas eighter, who are allways called the 3 best midfielders in the world.

Yet an aggressive muller, with schweinsteiger and Martinez as controlling midfielders, totally crushed them

THE reason, why barcelona didnt even score, was much down to Martinez. Who is the actual hero in the murder of tiki taki.
Martinez, didnt press aggressively, but held shape togheter, and was excellent in cutting off the routes to messi and iniesta.
Furthermore, when any of the barcelona players dared dribbeling past the 3am line, he'd move in for the kill.

Marchisio has the positionning. He's certainly good enough in duels. He doesnt have the incredibly good anticipating skills of martinez, but he's better in shutteling the midfield forward.

In the 41311RED© formation, marchisio would also have 3 players in front/next to him, pressing and beeing aggressive. But in that aspect, pogba+vidal+tevez, is simply better then robben+muller+ribery.
Offensively, the bayern 3 is offcourse somewhat better.

In that regard, marchisio fits the 41311RED© formation, where as Martinez is god amongst peasant fuckers in 4231

It is a waste of sorts to be using Asamoah as a left wing back, for the role does not play to his natural strengths, other than robustness and determination. To deploy him as a LB in a flat back four is an ever greater waste, and a strange move considering Chiellini is much more suited to the role defensively, Ogbonna supposedly could be also, and what of Peluso. I know Chiellini's attacking prowess is rather limite, but we have such quality CBs I quite like him as a fullback, he is a monster there. Still, we need width and support, but not as much as with wingbacks...Caceres could do a job there. All of these players I would put there before Asamoah, who in your formation, Zach, is surely a better option than Marchisio for the CM slot.

Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba are all too special and enjoying fine form, to be left out, Claudio has been on the decline for much of the latter half of last season, and not much better this term (yet). Will be a shame if he leaves in January, but perhaps it will be for the best for all concerned. Same goes for Vucinic really, although less of a shame if he goes.

@Zacheryah has a hard on for Asamoah at LB when he clearly sucks playing in that position.

He does not suck as a wingback nor a fullback. He's just infinitely better as a CM.
He's the best leftwingback/fullback we can get, so your argument is pointless and invalid

he doesn't suck, but the modern day fullback needs to be able to go attack and defend effectively, this is especially crucial for a formation without wingers, Asa is just not effective going forward, he can defend excellently but offers asscrack in attack. Its not his fault he is being played out of position. If we can get Kolarov and move asa to the middle it will be great.

Kolarov is asscrack in defence, which would be his primary job in a 4 man defence. Also Asamoah has been more than productive when there has been another player supporting him in the wing which for me has been the key difference between Pogba at LCM and Marchisio at LCM, Pogba occasionally goes wide to make plays. If Asamoah is playing in a 4 man defence he will definitely have support going forward, aka wouldn't have to do those silly stepovers after finding himself alone on the wing.
