Juve’s phenomenal start to the 2012/13 campaign has sent out a clear message to their Serie A Scudetto rivals.
The statistics say it all: 19 points from seven games, 17 goals scored, four conceded and an average haul of 2.71 points per encounter.
A glance back at the record books shows that the Bianconeri have amassed a similar average on just three occasions since three points were awarded for a win in the Italian championship: 2006/07, 2004/05 and 2003/04. It’s almost impossible to top such a statistic, although Juventus have done so once in their history, maintaining a 100 per cent record from the first seven encounters of the 2005/06 campaign.
Antonio Conte’s side have also shown themselves to be strong in attack. Only in two previous campaigns – 2003/04 and 1997/98 - have the Bianconeri scored more at this point of the season.
But there is one statistic that stands head and shoulders above the rest: 46 championship games unbeaten. Since slipping to defeat against Parma in May 2011, Juventus have displayed a ruthless determination to both construct and maintain a run which continues to edge closer to Milan’s record of 58 games without defeat.
