I don't think the 4 man defense will help the situation because Bonucci and Chiellini want to play deeper and turn and run (man mark). They don't want to play zonal and high.

So that puts way more pressure on the holding mids (mid? I only see Arthur playing there today), to run their ass off to cover the huge gap the defence is conceding (and I believe conceding is the appropriate word here).
Yep, on defensive fase the midfielders are always desperately running late backwards to cover the huge gap between them and defenders, and with wingers out of the map. That's no coincidence they always look shot at the end of games. It's been a very constant pattern so far.

But offensively I like the aggressiveness and movement. It's a dylema. How can we keep it without being so defensively fragile? Against a good team we should be crushed.

Fairly decent start but we’ve not done a lot since. Morata should have shot instead of passing to Ronnie for 2-0 and we could have had another but it’s not the domination pirlo asked for

Neither Arthur or Rabiot have any defensive awareness.

What should happen is one sits while the other attacks but neither seem to think about this.

Why is Bonucci among the 3 worst? :D We allowed them just one chance when once again the midfielders were late to cover their man. Otherwise no work for our CBs, nor a mistake from them that I can remember.
Defensively not much for the defence, although collectively they have been shaky in a few situations. Bonucci being among the worst is because he has lost the ball 4 times already in build-up, completely unprovoked, trying some ridiculous passes. We have too many players trying difficult passes and consequently our play quickly becomes fragmented, after an otherwise fresh start. Thats my opinion.

Rabiot is playing much higher than I remember his position playing at the start of the year. I think in this case, we should just counter press, since all our players are up the pitch.

But we're not really counter-pressing, we are turning and running backwards, so there's going to be huge gaps.

Actually I think you underrate Rabiot`s contribution - He doesnt assist or score much but I think he is doing well defensively.
Arthur - Yeah, I like how he is comfortable on the ball but when he needs to defend he is going awol.

Something worrying to me since the Sarri days is showing itself again in this game: poor chance creation. Final third combination play isn't really working, and there were some poor pass choices on the break in the first half squandering some great chances. Also Cuadrado needs to at least hit the target when shooting from inside the box, wtf?

Long passes do not work this season. You're right that tonight they didn't work either. Bonucci used to deliver those with great precision. Bentancur too was doing that good, but this year he sucks when it comes to long balls. Arthur's not even trying them and Rabiot was never any good in it, nor was Giorgio.

Let’s not forget we’re playing the mighty Ferencvaros.

Pirlo needs to change something, with this kind of playing style we will win jack shit long term.

He's definitely good in 1 v 1 duels. But I think he lacks the defensive instinct and awareness to pick up runners from midfield in the space behind him.

Prime example was an early chance when there were a couple of runners who weren't picked up by Arthur or him. Chiellini was gesturing to him afterwards.

What would this team do with zaniolo and partey in the midle, and not arthur and rabiot. This midfield is soo bad that chiellini and bonucci passes the ball infront. Really bad. I hope we sign locatelli in january.
I think it has something to do with our tactics. It has been like this for years. We prefer having 2-3 men centrally behind the ball to make some magic passes. While we make no movements in midfield. Before it was Pjanic dropping very deep to pick up the ball. We make it super easy for the opponent to mark our players because we sacrifice 2-3 players in central defence when we are on the ball. I think it has to do with low confidence of CBs too.
