Benta grew into the game, was actually orchestrating the midfield for a bit

I think the key issue is that Mandzukic has been scoring too much to not start, Ronaldo is Ronaldo and has to to start (obviously deserves to) and Dybala has been good as of late so he has to start as well

Yeah that could be a possible explanation. But not the smartest I would say. Those 3 players have not scored a lot of goals playing together at the same time. So if we just throw in strikers because they have scored some goals, then who is gonna supply them with chances. So if that is Allegri's logic, then it doesn't look good.
