Maybe it's a combination of both bad form and not getting enough services/having enough clear cut chances. But not wanting him here when he excelled at his job, which is to score goals, for many seasons is unjustified hate. At the time he seemed like an excellent signing.

I wouldn't exactly call it hate, I just would have rathered a "lesser" player who can take chances more regularly, as I felt it would have suited us more than a hardworking jack of all trades, who despite excelling and scoring a decent return was surplus to requirements at his last two clubs, with them probably feeling they need someone who will take more chances
