Category: Match Reports

Only three days after the match played against Udinese, Parma come to the Delle Alpi stadium to meet Juventus who have recovered Vieira in the midfield and choose the Del Piero-Ibrahimovic partnership in attack.
The tempo on both sides is quite slow and nothing worth mentioning happens in the first ten minutes. After 13 minutes Ibrahimovic lights up the stands with a blaze: the Swede’s great pass to Del Piero, the Captain dribbles and passes to Mutu who, in the background, tries to put the ball back in but his cross kick is deflected for a corner. On 20’ minutes, Corradi shoots a right-footed kick from a thirty-metre range but he completely misses the target, while seven minutes later Vieira tries to feed Ibrahimovic with a long shot but the Swede, anticipated by Guardalben, is offside. Parma get dangerous on 33’ minutes when Marchionni sets Corradi on the go, who sprints in a regular position and anticipates Buffon with a volley but the ball ends out. Juventus reply on 35’ minutes with Balzaretti’s right-footed kick from the edge of the box, saved by Guardalben. The Bianconeri do not attack forcefully and Parma grab the chance: on 39’ minutes, Bresciano puts a low cross in from the left which gets to Dessena, free in the midfield, who plays an angled shot and puts the ball in (0-1). Juventus react and at the end of the first half earn the draw: a long shot from Mutu to Ibrahimovic who gets past Couto and beats Guardalben with a right-footed drive (1-1).

Capello starts the second half replacing Ibrahimovic with Trezeguet and after five minutes he substitutes Zambrotta with Blasi. On 7’ minutes, Emerson shoots a left-footed kick from outside the area but Guardalben clears. The goalkeeper is protagonist again on 12’ minutes when he saves a wonderful volley shot by Mutu, following Nedved’s cross pass. On 14’ minutes it’s Emerson and Del Piero aiming at goal from the edge of the box but both shots ends too high over the bar. Four minutes later, Blasi’s uncertainty frees Corradi in the penalty area but the forward, face to face with Buffon, incredibly shoots the ball out. On 20’ Nedved serves for Trezeguet in the box but the Frenchman is anticipated by Guardalben. On 23’ minutes, Juventus get very close to scoring with Del Piero who plays a beautiful free kick which unfortunately hits the post. The Bianconeri forcefully look for the winning goal: on 26’ minutes, Mutu and Del Piero look for it with two shots from the edge of the penalty area but they get both countered by the visitors’ defence. Five minutes later, Trezeguer’s header, after Nedved’s cross shot, gets too high.
The Frenchman aims at goal on 41’ minutes but his shot from the edge of the penalty area is deflected for a corner. Two minutes later, Camoranesi puts the ball in from the right flank, Vieira grabs the ball but he’s brought down: it’s penalty. Del Piero is in charge of converting the penalty but his powerful shot hits the crossbar once again. Juventus press in the final minutes but they cannot break the tie. It ends 1-1.

I don't even want Cap to open his mouth after this one and to say some crap like, "Parma played really hard and was a tough opponent. We played our game. We just missed our chances in the end."

Cap should pretty much come out and say, "I f*#$%^d up. We blew this match big time and should have blown out Parma at home by three or more goals. We have work to do before the CL, because a performance like this is not acceptable."

Well, in my dreams at least...

Ugh. Too late. Check out this crock of sh*t:

Capello: “An acceptable draw”

“We tried to win until the very last minute but we could not find the winning goal, partly because of some bad luck and also because of the rival goalkeeper’s ability. However, Parma too had their good chances, so a draw can do”. This was Capello’s comment right after the draw earned at home against the Emilia-based team, a tough side that defended cautiously: “We knew they would not be easy to face and we were right. We were unlucky with Del Piero hitting the post twice, first on a free kick then in playing the penalty kick but they too went close to scoring the second goal, therefore the draw is a fair result”. A 1-1 that, after Inter being defeated in Florence, has allowed the Bianconeri to go up to 9 nine points clear of the second-ranked: “It’s undoubtedly a good advantage that will allow us to meet the Nerazzurri in the best way”.
Cap, I defend you a lot here. But this time you have your head up your rectum. Parma should have been three goals down so it would never have to come down to any "very last minute" desperation.

You blew it, and the result is absolutely not acceptable.

Having to come from behind both times against Parma this season? That's a joke.

Agreed. But when we play like rubbish, we need to come out and say so.

...and not that it was "acceptable". It clearly was not.

lets just say, that nobody should be surprised that if we dont win against inter. imagine losing, imagine what psycoligical effects would that have on the team, just before the cl our lead is cut in half

Bad luck? We're playing Parma, who barely escaped relegation last season, at home. And we're actually allowing the outcome of the game to actually come down to "luck"?

Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture?

we have no hope in the champions league if we play like this....we lacked any determination at all. why do we have to start matches so slow and scramble towards the end??

IF he would have given the role of ibra to Mutu, maybe we would have lost the game 0-1.
