TBH UEFA granting us a spot in the Uefa Cup isn't that far fetched. Juventus did behave well after being demoted. Just think of how many big clubs would have taken the whole thing to civil court. All in all FIGC and UEFA may thank us for not making this a long, hard and ugly battle.

C'mooooooooon guys WAKE UP AND STOP DREAMING !!!
Exactly...

The whole thread has no meaning, IMHO...

We won't get anything and we're just looking like poor fans who want anything to cheer for.

Stop thinking of Europe until we earn our seat in its championships.

If you want to be sceptical, you should think things through and show criticism. In fact, what you're doing now is the exact opposite of being sceptical. You just assume it won't go our way. People who dismiss things without thinking about them first, are complete and utter idiots IMHO.

This is from Wikipedia.com

The UEFA Intertoto Cup, also abbreviated as UI Cup is a summer football competition for European clubs that have not qualified for one of the two major UEFA competitions, the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. Any club which wishes to participate must apply for entry, with the highest placed club (by league position in their domestic league) at the end of the season entering the competition. The club does not necessarily have to be ranked directly below the clubs which have qualified for another UEFA competition; if the club which is in this position did not apply, they will not be eligible to compete in the Intertoto Cup, with the space instead going to the club which did apply.
The cup bills itself as providing both an opportunity for clubs who otherwise would not get the chance to enter the UEFA Cup, but also as an opportunity for sports lotteries (or pools) to continue during the summer.[1] This reflects its background, which was as a tournament solely for football pools. In 1995, the tournament came under official UEFA sanctioning[2] and UEFA Cup qualification places were granted. Initially two were provided, but in 2006 this number was increased to the current total of eleven.

What i gather is,and correct me if im wrong, that for us to play in the Intertoto, not even one of the teams from the Serie A should apply for a spot. No?

I never said Juventus were sure of a spot. I said it wasn't illogical of UEFA to hand it to them. THINK people, THINK.

of course it's possible.

In order to not ruin our preparation we could field the bench and start a normal training regime with the starters later.

I can't imagine what the media and Juve haters will say but the f*ck cares. We didn't play in Europe for a year, so what if they give us the "UEFA Cup".

First of all is this true? Is it official that UEFA has granted us a position in intertoto/UEFA cup? If so on what basis? Was it a settlement agreement done a year ago while we were black mailed that we do not take our case to the civil court which would have affected Italy's chances in EURO 08 in return we would get an immediate UEFA cup seat for us to play on?
I am not following?? I got lost here.

I understand the rule of UEFA that a club has to apply for the championship and if any club fails to do so that next club on the application will be granted the position. But this goes beyound that.

Lets not get over our heads, lets just wait and see what happens. If we do get this all i can say we should do well so we can earn more instant money. it will help us with our sponsers and TV rights. But this should not distract us from reaching the CL next season and loosing the ability to fight in the Serie A. Our haters would die if we challenged for teh scudetto next season..

Figers crossed :) ..

guys granting a license is not granting a position.

the way i understand it is:

in the CL first two or three teams will enter the competition. if ,and its a huge if, one of the teams drop for any reason then the next in the league ranking will enter like what happened this year.

in the uefa cup its not the same matter. lower standard of teams enter the uefa cup. so if one drop a mid table team or a third team in some lower competitions will enter. this will effect the quality of the competition.

to avoid this if a team drop uefa will grant a team that will qualify the standards of the competition rather than the next in line. thats why they usually grant extra licenses in EPL, liga and seire A.

they just added juve to the list of contingency teams. so its an extreme long shot for juve to enter so forget about it.

IC?

Oh man. To put money where my mouth is, Juve qualifying for UEFA European play -- even if for the Intertoto -- would be just more of the same shady favoritism b.s. we saw with Milan qualifying for the CL in 2006 and Liverpool in 2005. :(

To Andries point, it is logical -- the TV revenues would be huge compared to what Ascoli could nab. Money runs the sport... that's the bottom line truth though.

Thats just it... from a marketing POV, Juventus in Intertoto is priceless. People will actually care to watch "the wounded giants return to greatness." lets remember, Intertoto was started as a betting league. Imagine the revenue Juventus would bring in... plus, they still boast a very high UEFA club ranking.

Intertoto is very unappealing right now, always has been, and the right teams raise its profile every time.

Will it appear shady to some people? Yeah. Who cares. Liverpool getting into CL despite not warranting it domestically is just as bad. Its not like Intertoto is Champions League... its like getting a greasy macdonalds cheeseburger when you're used to Fillet Mignon and Lobster. UEFA has the power under Section 1.05 to do whatever they want for the betterment of the game, and engaging a large fan base is always good for business.

double standard :disagree:

fuck this! I don't want it. we played in serie B last season without playing in Europe, so a season in Serie A without playing in Europe for one year is not a thing we can't stand.
