Juventus coach Marcelo Lippi painted a stoic figure during the post-match interviews on Sunday despite the fact that his team showed that they are dead serious about defending their title by thrashing Reggina 5-0.


"There's no need to treat this match as a great triumph," proclaimed the silver-haired tactician. "We took this test very seriously and this is the result of that attitude. Juventus have begun the new year very well: a 5-0 win over Reggina, useful to improve the moral of the group and of some players who have started in the right way. The first goal in this season and, above all, the news that Trezeguet is fit. A great goal and the match played by Antonio Conte. But also the final goal scored by Marco Di Vaio.

"We were ready for the match - Di Vaio says -, we knew it was important a great start this year. The victory is precious above all for the beautiful match played by David (Trezeguet)."

Marco Di Vaio also scored one goal. "It's very important because now I feel confident. I would like to thank the supporters who have always been lovely . I wish I could make them happy in the future."

Di Vaio usually scores in the first match of the year. Last season he scored a hat-trick. "This goal is a good start. In the meantime Juventus are thinking about the future. In the next seven days Lippi's team has to play in the Coppa Italia against Perugia and then on Sunday there is the big match against Chievo.

These are two matches to show that Juventus is ready to have a great 2003. "We consider the Coppa Italia important. We need to play and we want to win after the horrible December match against Reggina. Chievo? I watched them on TV and I have to admit that they were really good against Rome."

Good performance by our players!
Showed deadliness in front of goal though I still think we can improve from that.
In all honesty, Reggina, even though I hate to admit it, looks almost relegation certainty with the way they played.
What we lack is beating quality teams week in and week out. We must start that from now.

DP played a good game as well, topping it off with a pk goal.

Remember everyone, this was only Reggina- it was more like a practice match for Juve. A real test comes next week against Chievo

It should be noted we did beat Reggina in the Coppa with our reserve team..
