They are with the first team on and off quite often. They alternate between who gets to sit on the bench as backup and such.

Our primavera GK and defence are really bad, although that seems to be the trend in all of Italy in the last 5 or so years which is strange considering it are these positions Italy are best known to produce at a world class level.. I blame Baggio

it's a phase...Italy didn't have a great MF till a few years ago...now they have so many exciting talents...

Defenders mature and develop way later then others. Its normal they look bit clueless at that age. Defending is as much about fast mind, and that comes with alot of experience.

I'm not saying 'cos they're young and all that...look all over Italy, there are almost no good defenders, barring guys like Chiellini and Santacroce...

Yeah that I get. I just meant the guy who said the primavera Ds sucked. Defenders who are 17-18 are hapless fools mostly. Its not a talent issue, but an age thing, the development path is longer for defenders, so they shouldnt be judged too early.

I didn't mean teenage hopefuls, I meant defenders who should be at their prime now.. Barzagli is the only half decent Italian defender in the mid to late 20s, and even Barzagli or Gamberini for that matter are hopeless.. There seems to be a gap between the likes of Canna, Nesta, Maldini to the likes of Chiellini and Santacroce which is what I was trying to point out

But Gamberini is not hopeless. He isn't Canna, Nesta quality but there aren't many CBs better from other top footy nations at the moment. Barzagli, on the other hand is just
