Sevilla In Maresca Talks
7/14/2005 10:39:00 PM
Sevilla are set to sign out-of-favour Juventus midfielder Enzo Maresca after talks between the two clubs took place in Italy, scuppering any interest from Fulham.
The Spanish club’s technical secretary, Ramón Rodríguez - who is known as Monchi, travelled to Turin to discuss the deal only days after Juve regained 100 per cent of Maresca’s contract after holding 50 per cent of it with Fiorentina.

Maresca spent last season on loan at Fiore, with Fabrizio Miccoli, but the duo were jeered when they returned to the Juventus club by a section of fans after seying they wished that they had stayed in Florence.

Juve director general, Luciano Moggi, is keen to off-load Maresca and there has been interest from several clubs including his former club West Bromwich Albion and Fulham from the Premiership.

It was reported that Moggi was keen to use the player in a player-plus-cash deal to lure some of Juve's prime targets to the club, but having captured Patrick Vieira that may no longer be necessary.

Maresca returned to Italy from the Hawthorns in 1999 in a €6million move, but has failed to impress at the club and has spent loan spells at Bologna, Piacenza and Fiore.

The bid for Maresca could pave the way for Julio Baptista to move after Sevilla president José María del Nido confessed that he may not be able to stop the Brazilian from leaving.

Del Nido also confessed that if Baptista were to leave then the Andalucian outfit would move quickly to bring in a replacement for him and Maresca could be that option.

What a shame. Always one of my favourite players...
The way Juve threw him to Fiorentina after being one of the best Juventini in the f*cked up 2003/04-Season made him suffer a lot.

Most of the fans saw it coming, nevertheless I would have loved to see him in the bianconeri-shirt next season...

The officer corps still lacks but the Juventus has practically yielded to Seville the centrocampista Enzo Maresca. The player in the last season has played in the Fiorentina disputing 25 contests in championship and marking 4 nets. Maresca was as soon as returned in bianconero, but it did not re-enter in the plans of the society that has yielded it to the Spanish of Seville for 3 million euro.

Maresca its a great player, and his case its diferent from Miccoli.

At this moment Maresca is wayyyyyyyyy better than Appiah, Blasi and Tach all togueter, he was destine to go away, coz Juve doesn't want him.

Juventus don't want Maresca for some strange reason, he was a loyal player, he always said that he loved Juve but we kick him out all the time, its only logical that he doesn't like us.

But, anyway, he is gone, and I hope he can play in Sevilla, he deserves to play he is a great player
    I agree,

I am so sad now, yesterday I was happy because of the arrival of viera. but now the happines is gone.
Maresca is a player, who was in the heart of all true juventini, great player great personality and great juventino. he did never never become a real chance at juve. I can understand his dissapointment.
I am sure the he will be in the nationale very soon. and may be he will go to barca in the coming seasons. and then moggi and cappello will see what a mistake they have done :(

bye Enzo, you will stay allways in our hearts as a true juventino..

Sevilla have continued their pre-season preparations with the signing of Enzo Maresca from Juventus.

The midfielder makes the switch to La Liga for €3 million after the Bianconeri decided he was expendable at Stadio Delle Alpi.

Juve had only just purchased full ownership of the 25-year-old from Fiorentina, although, with the arrival of Patrick Vieira, coach Fabio Capello has a wealth of midfield talent at his disposal.

The former West Brom star had been linked with a return to England in the form of London outfit Fulham, although he will now continue his development under Sevilla boss Juande Ramos.

The two clubs agreed on the deal after Sevilla sport director Ramon Rodriguez and director general Jose Maria Cruz made the trip to Turin to finalise negotiations with Bianconeri officials.

Maresca has penned a three-year deal and the Spanish outfit are hopeful that he can prove to be an astute purchase at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

"He is an excellent player who can do great things for Sevilla," said Rodriguez.

Maresca is Sevilla's third signing of the summer, following Valencia keeper Andres Palop and Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano.

Come on man, surely Enzo has done something better than the bullhorns by now...:groan:
well yeah, but its one of the things people will always tie maresca to :)

I am saddened by the news. I really think he has the potential yet Juventus just wont give him a real chance with us (bar that one season with us)
