Luiz having less of a preseason and having a long period of playing after the end of the 23/24 season due to playing with Brazil I think Motta is giving him time to rest and play only as a sub to start the year.

He played nearly 4400 minutes in the English competitions last year and then played 3 matches in Copa America after the season ended. Lots of minutes on his legs and best to give him an actual break and rest than rush him back imo.
