Juventus have punished their players for today’s 4-3 home defeat by throwing all the players and Coach into a pre-match training camp.
“We are all going into a ritiro from this evening,” confirmed Marcello Lippi following the humiliating setback to Lecce.
“This is a decision made by the club and it applies to everyone, except those players called for international duty.”
The Bianconeri have been struggling throughout the last few months, but the shambolic display against relegation battlers Lecce proved the final straw.
Nonetheless, it is a very unusual move for Juventus to put their players in a pre-match training camp for an entire week, as it is usually a tactic taken by the smaller Italian sides.
“This wasn’t a good day for us,” continued the tactician, “and the system we used was not to blame. We have given our opponents too many chances with both set-ups.”
Lippi was under fire for fielding a top-heavy side with four forwards and attacking fullbacks, a tactic that allowed counter-attack specialists Lecce to thrive.
It now looks as if Juventus have lost all hope of capturing second place off Roma, so they will have to go through the qualifying round for the Champions’ League.
“Probably this is the end of our bid for second,” admitted the Coach, “as it really is too difficult now.”
Juve’s one remaining objective is now the Coppa Italia, but they have already lost the first leg of the Final 2-0 to Lazio.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Thats the right thing to do of Juve, plus they should have refused them wage (except Del Piero and Maresca) until they did better. (love to hear the ***** Trez then) im sure Agnelli is very unhappy with Lippi too.
