Yeah, they need a playmaker and a cover for Giggsy, he aint gonna play forever.

Also, they could do with a few new defenders.
Cris Ronaldo can help cover for Giggs, but yeah, a new leftie would be useful for them. New defenders? Not really needed imo. They should be able to manage pretty well at the back with Heinze joining and Rio returning from his ban.

United Bid For Gilardino?
6/23/2004 2:43:00 PM
According to reports from Italy, Manchester United have launched an ambitious €25 million bid for Parma's young striker Alberto Gilardino.
The exciting youngster is believed to be being watched by the biggest clubs in Europe and could well be sold due to Parma's precarious financial position.

Manchester United, who have already signed English striker Alan Smith from Leeds United for £7m have also been linked with 18-year-old sensation Wayne Rooney, although Chelsea may well be the only club capable to affording his ever-increasing transfer fee

Yeah, but IMO they could use a partner to Rio, they werent exactly great in defence even with him. IMO he's a bit overrated. I mean, who do they have in D, the Neville brothers, O'Shea, Silvestre? Hardly a world class defence.

And they either need to get a new left wing and stick Ronaldo to the right, or get a right wing and use Ronaldo as a sub for Giggs, but IMO Solskjaer cant play in midfield like Alex had him play in the past.

zlatan i disagree that solskjaer can't play on the right, imo he's done a great job despite the transition and can play out the rest of his career there comfortably.

he's quick, decisive on the ball and, surprisingly, can cross pretty well.

Maybe, TBH I havent seen him ply there too much, I thought he was another Zalayeta (not because of the overall quality, but because of his switch to the right ;) )

Anyways, I never understood why Sir Alex didnt give him more chances in the first team, altho he did his job as sub perfectly.

True, but Heinze is added quality back there imo. As for Ronaldo, I was thinking that he should start on the right, but if Giggs gets injured rather than replacing him with a sub, Ronnie would play on the left and Fletcher or somebody else could play on the right.

Gary Neville is a world class defender IMO, he's been ever so reliable in this torunament but nobody ever gives him credit for it!

    Gilardino: What Roma deal?
    Thursday 1 July, 2004
    Football Italia

Parma striker Alberto Gilardino has not agreed terms with Roma over a move to the Stadio Olimpico.

Latest rumours suggested that the capital outfit had convinced the player to opt for them.

However, Gilardino’s agent has denied that a deal has been done with Roma or any other club.

"I have not met with Roma sporting director Franco Baldini," said Francesco Romano. "The same applies for Luciano Moggi of Juventus.

"No agreement is in place with Roma. I was surprised to read stories that claimed an understanding had been reached.

"The fact is that those reports do not correspond with the truth."

The Under-21 international, scorer of 23 goals in Serie A last season, is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market.

Parma, notwithstanding their financial problems, want to keep hold of the former Piacenza starlet despite interest from Roma, Juventus and Real Madrid.

However, Romano also made it clear that the Spanish giants had yet to confirm their interest in his man.

"Real haven’t made an official move for Gilardino," he added. "As for the player himself, he doesn’t have a preference in his destination."

    Giuseppe, welcome to the forums.

Even if he comes, I am afraid we will not see him play, with Trezeguet, DP, Miccoli and Di Vaio in the squad.
