Parma to keep Gilardino
Wednesday 23 June, 2004

Parma have insisted that star striker Alberto Gilardino is not available for transfer this summer.

"He is not on the market," stated Parma director general Luca Baraldi despite the rumours suggesting otherwise.

Reports yesterday claimed that Juventus had renewed their interest in the Under-21 international.

However, it seems that the Gialloblu are looking to keep hold of the 22-year-old despite their financial troubles.

Gilardino, also wanted by Roma, is rated as one of the country’s most promising players after his 23 League goals last term. His contract at the Tardini expires in 2006.

Meanwhile, three of Gilardino’s Azzurrini teammates have had their immediate futures resolved.

Andrea Gasbarroni will remain at Palermo after Juventus allowed the midfielder to remain in Sicily for one more year.

Striker Giuseppe Sculli, also owned by Juventus, has agreed to stay at Chievo despite his struggles last term.

Milan have told Parma that they can keep midfielder Marco Donadel in their squad for the 2004-05 season.

United Bid For Gilardino?
6/23/2004 2:43:00 PM
According to reports from Italy, Manchester United have launched an ambitious €25 million bid for Parma's young striker Alberto Gilardino.
The exciting youngster is believed to be being watched by the biggest clubs in Europe and could well be sold due to Parma's precarious financial position.

Manchester United, who have already signed English striker Alan Smith from Leeds United for £7m have also been linked with 18-year-old sensation Wayne Rooney, although Chelsea may well be the only club capable to affording his ever-increasing transfer fee

What, so now they have Ruud, Smith, Saha, Solskjaer, and Bellion, and they'd want Gila? I dont think so, they dont need him. They already have Ruud and Saha in the same position.

i think it's pretty likely that they could snitch him.out of those you mentioned zlatan 2 are mainly bench players(smith & bellion), one has found a new lease of life at RM(solskjaer) and another hasn't yet established himself as a first choice in the team(saha).

Yeah, but thats all they need. Ruud is the star of the attack, and Saha his replacement. IMO Smith will be a first teamer if Ferguson decides to play with two strikers. IMO Gila wouldnt bring anything that Ruud or Saha dont already have, he's too similar to them IMO.

true, but fergie may feel like he needs two forwards capable of putting in 25 goals a season.he could be choosing to play with 2 forwards next season and somehow smith just ain't a goalpoacher.

oh wait,there's forlan too:D

Yeah, I forgot about him too :undecide:

Anyways, SMith and Ruud could work just because Smth isnt a goalpoacher, thats ruuds job. To top it off, they could play Ronaldo in attack if they wanted, as a forward-playmaker.

Yeah, they need a playmaker and a cover for Giggsy, he aint gonna play forever.

Also, they could do with a few new defenders.
