nice to see that none of our players in the list stand with a realistic chance to win the Golden Ball...
true.
zlatan probably has the best chance of winning it amongst our players, but even that best chance is not enough i suppose when youve got ronaldinho and co. in there.

i would hate gerrard to wn it,but ive got a feeling that he might just, simply bcoz ive always felt that actual european players might have a slight advantage over their south american etc competitors when it comes to this award.

I'll be controvertial here. I'll side with Juve_Kosova and Azzurri7 in saying I think Lampard should get it this time.

Man, if Maldini didn't win it after spending a legendary 20 years on the field then how do ya rate the chances of a deffender to win Golden Ball ???
Defenders r so way underrated in football. The attacking midfielders, playmakers and the strikers r always the 1 which attract attention the most by their beautiful display of fancy footwork and scoring goals while defenders do all the hard work protecting the goalkeeper and shutting down some of these attackers, yet they r not mentioned. When a goal is conceded, they receive all the blame by the media. Football world these days r so sad.

If I would give the award (with total disregard of defensive minded players):

1. Ronaldinho - always awesome
2. Camaronesi - How many bad games did he do? 2?
3. Gerrard - Very important for Liverpool when they won the CL. He's not even top 15 on my list though if I judge how good I think he really are.
4. Juninho
5. Riquelme

What will happen:
1. Ronaldinho
2/3. Gerrard & Lampard

Buffon crowns golden Ibra Tuesday 25 October, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus ‘keeper Gigi Buffon insists that teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic deserves the 2005 Golden Ball.

The Swede is one of nine Bianconeri players to be short-listed for the honour and Buffon, who is also a contender, has no doubts about his quality.

"I would give it to Ibrahimovic for all the good things he did last season," said the shot-stopper.

"He demonstrated that he could adapt quickly to a difficult championship like the Italian one.

"Who else has impressed me? I would say Barcelona’s Ronaldinho and Frank Lampard of Chelsea."

Buffon has spent the last two months on the sidelines following shoulder surgery, but his loss doesn’t seem to have affected his side’s ability.

They have won their first eight League games and the Italian concedes that he’s not been missed.

"We’ve won all of these matches and I don’t think my absence has been noted," he said modestly.

However, his replacement in the shape of Christian Abbiati has been criticised for a few shaky performances.

"Abbiati has played very well," defended Buffon. "He picked up an injury on Sunday, but was adequately replaced by Antonio Chimenti.

"Juventus don’t have any problems in goal."

Abbiati suffered a knee injury at the weekend, but he is expected to face Sampdoria on Wednesday night.

I do consider Woodgate as a good player before his move to RM. His injury almost wrecked him, if he continues to perform well he would probably get a spot in England NT. And I don't think he is nominated as a competitor for the Golden Ball in years to come

he doesn't.I respect him a lot but he doesn't deserve it.the season that Nedved won it,he was in his best form of the recent years but he didn't win and IMO Neddy deserved it more.but now,I think he is one of the reasons of Milan problems in defence.
