It works that way in real life too - same rule change that brought in transfer windows.

No. you can sign a precontract, which is basically a contract to sign a contract, and you'll go for free at the end of your contract to the new club. Man Utd have just picked up Liam Miller off Celtic that way.

Yeah, but if he had signed a pre-contract with Roma it would have been long before he had six-months lef ton his contract with us, so it would have been illegal.
