Play it safe, @baggio?
Juve are doing anything but playing it safe.
Bringing in youth such as Dybala, Vadala, Rugani, Zaza and potentially Draxler, with Berardi coming next year is anything but playing it safe. It's a bold move. A move that could lead to one step back this year but three steps forward in the future. This is a full on youth movement for a club that was 90 minutes away from an historic treble.
I can't see how these moves are considered passive. It is a risk. A HUGE risk. But it is a risk that management is willing to take. We all knew that the cycle of current players was going to end sooner or later. The sale of Vidal has moved that forward.
Two ways to look at it Serge. High risk/high reward can be measured by making an argument in terms of investment in youth, which I am completely for, incidentally. But that's not to say that the youth we invest in, will always come cheap. It shouldn't be that we invest in youth because it suits us financially as well.
When I speak of risk, I am referring to the inability or lack of inclination to spend bigger money on a certain quality of player. We are rumoured to be wanting to pay 20-25m for Draxler, but are finding it difficult to compete for Goetze who is in the 40m bracket. Given the season we had, and Vidals sale, I would think if there was one season we could take that risk, it would be this one, but we've chosen to play safe, with a player on a salary within 4m, instead of going after the guy who would slot in as a top earner. That's risk averse to me because I can see we are genuinely interested in the more expensive player but we're settling for someone whose just come off an injury instead because of the financials involved.
Sure, there is an argument in debating player will, but that too is also affected by the suggestion of a pay cut. (And I'm not even getting into the tangent of how Geotze is more CAM and Draxler has a wider berth In terms of what we need on the pitch.)
