IF (huge IF) he turns out to be a squad player, bencher, then he's not a bad option at all (but I'm talking 5-6m here, not 11 fucking million). He's got good technique and can be useful.
But to be a so called sure starter....big fucking NO. Especailly if he and Pepe are supposed to rock our wings :wallbang:

Can't go through the entire thread but I see it in the players section so I thought we signed Martinez for 11m or something.
Did we?

If we did then what I said stands. It was gonna be better if Marotta went on holiday instead of signing players during the world cup. Then at least we were gonna have hope instead of being disappointed with signings like Martinez.

Ok player but come on, he's not someone who will improve your team.
It's a good thing to buy players before the WC. Waiting long enough will make us lose all targets and spend many millions extra because their price double jumped during the competition.

There's nothing wrong with the guy and his qualities IMO. I agree that his price is very high though, that's another issue. He should be ~8mln at most. It's a mistake if we do skip Krasic (or yet any other quality winger) that would cost only 3-4mln more. I think many people underestimate Martinez. Maybe he did good there for 2 seasons and he'll choke here, maybe, but we'll see.

I don't want to sound like an allknowing, but my experience with watching and judging players tells me not to expect anything at all from him. He's at the exact same level as Almiron. I watched him a lot in these last 3 seasons (maybe 4?). I know what to expect from him. Some might be pleasantly surprised 4-5 times during the season with him, but that's the most we can expect. 4-5 good matches.

Then I guess you watched him a lot more and I guess I watched matches where he shined.

I'll wait the end of mercato and then judge Marotta, because we're still on the open road. So far IMO it doesn't look very promising.

I hope people will be happy with a side suited for the straight 4-4-2, and only for the straight 4-4-2. Yeah, it may get us some points from playing compact defense, sure. But if anybody thinks we can emulate the success Capello had with it, along with his squad of world class calibre, you're mistaken. We don't have that.

We're buying mediocre personnel simply to use a mediocre formation that only brought us some success when we had the best of the best. Do the math. It's not a pretty picture.

Yeah, that would be acceptable. Martinez and Pepe for one position.
Still, I can't believe we're buying Martinez when we have Giovinco.

My only hope is that we want 4 wingers, 2 of which will be Krasic and Seba and 2 the newcomers. Still, looking at the newcomers and the money we'll be paying for Martinez, I'd much rather keep a 34 year old, injury prone, crazy Camoranesi.

No, I really can't see much logic in buying Martinez, even if it was for free.

So far we've seen that we're not counting on Giovinco. I doubt Del Neri is any different and I don't think he'll give him a chance. I didn't place the kid in that team because I simply don't think we'll use him next season. Or even better said, we could use him to sign some player - and it's how this transfer looks "logical".

Martinez-Gilardino-Krasic

Melo-Marchisio-Diego

Taiwo(Dooz:p) Chiellini-Bonucci-Motta

Buffon

Ideally we would have Giovinco at LWF then that formation would be very nice.
