He was most definitely not unhappy to sign for Man Utd. All this talk of being forced only came up after he received death threats from unknown sources. Suddenly, he never wanted to sign for Man U, and was pressured by the clubs, he had no access to his agents, was given no time to think it over.

Can anyone see any parrallels with Anders Frisk? Ref receives death threats, and has to quit football. Obi receives death threats for signing for Man Utd, and suddenly dissappears from Oslo and reappears in London.

If the idiot had half a brain, he'd have said no to both clubs and stayed in Norway until someone neutral came along.

Allow me to translate this for you, and take away the "spin".

"I want to sign for Chelsea" - John Obi Mikel

"I no longer want to play for Manchester United, because my agents have already accepted money from Chelsea to make sure I sign for them, without my knowledge, now I am being threatened on all sides to sign for Chelsea.

"Also, Chelsea have offered me more money! What did you really think I would of joined them for equal or less money?"

"HA HA HA HA HA" replied Mikel.

Nicole: I know how you feel, because european clubs all time come to Brazil to "steal" many players of our youths teams...

Udinese, for example, tried a couple years ago, steal one RB of Flamengo... But they were not successful... :D

Your a Flamengo fan? I cant really claim to follow Brazilian football greatly, it doesnt really get much coverage he in the UK, but of course Brazil is fantastic for producing youngsters. So I can imagine that alot of European clubs try to "pinch" players. The two youngster I heard to look out for this season are a played called Kerlon & Ramon this season, dont know about any others though.

The highly sought after Nigerian soccer talent John Obi Mikel must be back in Oslo on Monday and explain his disappearance from football club Lyn to ruling body FIFA.

"We expect him back in Oslo on Monday. Anything else would be a breach of contract," said Lyn director Morgan Andersen.

On Saturday evening Mikel will play in the final of the Under-20 World Championship against Argentina. In a recent interview with Norwegian TV2 Mikel said he planned to return home to Nigeria to visit his family.

Mikel, who was sold to English Premier League giants Manchester United from Lyn FC Oslo, created an international sensation by vanishing and apparently intending to sign for London club and Premier League Champions Chelsea.

World football body FIFA wants an explanation and is expecting to get one in Oslo on July 4.

Nigerian football agent John Shittu has said that neither Mikel nor the other three Nigerian talents who were playing for Lyn will be going back to Oslo.

Player agents John Shittu and Dan Fletcher on Saturday morning clashed in the lobby of the Mitland Hotel in Utrecht, where the Flying Eagles are putting up during which time Shittu challenged Fletcher’s claims over his mandate to represent Mikel Obi.

Fletcher was openly embarrassed when Shittu challenged him over Mikel, who is presently in a tug-of-war involving top English clubs Manchester United and Chelsea.

“Do you know Mikel? Are you his agent?” Shittu thundered.

“You have caused me all kinds of trouble with your lies.”

Fletcher, all flushed in the full glare of several Nigerian journalists, could barely manage a defence, saying he has not had much contact with the Flying Eagles star.

He also attempted to apologise to Shittu “for all the mess” this has caused him.

Outside the hotel, Fletcher changed his story by telling reporters that even though he has not had contact with the player, he does have a contract with Mikel.

He also argued that he only came to the hotel to see “my player Promise Isaac”.

“I have no business with Mikel,” he said. An angry Mikel was also prevented from coming out of the hotel to challenge Fletcher's claims, team official Waidi Akanni told KICK OFF.

Supporters club boss Rafiu Ladipo will also challenge Fletcher for putting up a representation contract with Mikel which gives the English agent 30 per cent of the player’s earnings.

Fletcher eventually beat a retreat and picked up a taxi to take him to safety, away from the Mitland Hotel.

They are showing the reception for the youth team on TV now. Mikel Obi isn't there, he has gone to Norway, back to his club. It is said that the coach Siasia told him to go back and sort himself out.
I pray to high heavens that the coach also told him to do the right thing and join ManU!

I never said it was your opinion either, what I am asking you to do is to correct such ignorant people when you run into them.

They have ruined the boys career even before it begun
I wouldn't say so, it all depends on how he comports himself. I am all for a move to ManU, but I am pissed off to hear that the agent who facilitated that move, Fletcher, put a clause into the contract that he gets 30% of the boy's wages. IMO that's robbery!
The problem here isn't Obi! It is the agents. Shittu's greedy, Fletcher's greedy!
The clubs want a potentially great player, and the agents are cashing in on the situation.

    Has it ever been different?

Thas why I respect Paul Scholes, 1 of the only modern-day footballers to never have an agent.
