Napoli's mayor presented the two options for the project today, apparently they haven't decided yet :sergio:

I tempi e soprattutto chi mette i soldi?
Qualunque sia la scelta per fine gennaio vareremo il progetto. I soldi? Non starei qui a parlare se non ci fossero fortissimi interessi degli imprenditori. Faremo tutto in project financing. Decine e decine di milioni di euro di investimenti. Ma soprattutto lavoro, per i 4anni del progetto e poi per la gestione."

Basically, he said that they will either:
    - Renovate completely the San Paolo (removal of athletic track, improvement of the roof, etc.) and they would renovate the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium.
    - Build a new stadium but it would also be used for over sporting events such as rugby. This means that the stadium wouldn't be privately owned :sergio:

In either case, the project will be completed in four years, before his term as mayor will end.

Well, even though they said nothing about having the stadium privately owned by the club, a completely renovated San Paolo or a new stadium will still be great for serie A.

Which would you prefer? I think San Paolo is one of the few olimpicos where the running track isn't a huge issue because the fans make so much noise as it is, at the Olimpico Roma it is just awful!

That's more to do with shit crowds in Rome.

Can't beat the Olimpico's atmosphere for big games with big crowds.

Well, removing an athletic track to great effect is not too difficult as Stuttgart proved last summer.

They went from an olympic stadium(first picture) with and athletic track of a capacity of 52 000 to a football stadium of 60 441 places, for a cost of only 5.2 million euros

The San Paolo would need an entire new roof though, so the renovations would cost quite a bit more than Stuttgart's.

Still, a brand new stadium(privately owned would be even better) would be better.

The first picture looks better there.

Rather be a bit back from the pitch with a steep stand than right at the pitch with a gradual slope.

I disagree. Anyways, a new stadium would be better for the angle of the stands and other important aspects.

They haven't decided yet so let's hope that they will chose to build a new stadium. Yes, I do want Napoli and other Italian teams to have a new privately owned stadiums, Serie A really needs to enter the 21th century.

Slow gradient stands increase the chance of not having a clear view if you have anyone of any height sitting/standing in front of you.

The main thing is to avoid a stadium that isn't close to the pitch and doesn't have steeply sloping stands.

    Hampden. :sergio:

    -REP.

I bet they wanted FIGC not to relegate us in 2006. You know, for the greater good of Italian football.

That's why our stadium is perfect, it's very close to the pitch and it is so steep.

You want Serie A to remain in the 20th century?

I don't share that view. We'll be better than Naples Soccer anyways.
Whats the gurantee for that ?

Didn't we miss on European football for 2 seasons in a row and they're playing at this very moment in the CL and are through to the second round !

For the first time "in years" we're in a serious debt mainly because we've missed on CL football and we're struggling to build a team that can reach that competition. Wishing "an oponent" the best and hoping that they'll build a new stadium to boost their income is the worst thing any Juve fan shouldn't wish for right now.

Napoli are not struggling financially, those fuckers have just signed one of the best talents in south america for around 12 mil euros not to mention spending close to 20 mil on Cavani and around 14 mil on Inler last summer !! Same with Roma and the two bitch sisters from Milano.

I can understand people wishing clubs like Atalanta, cagliari, siena and perhaps bologna to build new modern stadiums to boost the image of serie A and Italian football but "not" our direct rivals.

And by the way, the argument that we'll always be better than them (just because we're better historicaly) is a non-sence, just look at liverpool who used to be "miles" ahead of any English club back in the 70's and 80's where are they right now ? They can't even make it to the CL.

I wish the worst for Napoli, Roma, the two milan clubs and Even Lazio. Lets dominate this league for 4-5 years in a row "then" we can have this arguement about whats best for serie A.

God i have smallminded views. We should be on top of the world, because we are that good. not because fucking competition has to play their games in a retarded stadium were nobody wants to come

I agree with you. i want serie a to beat the competition, a strong league, with us leading it.

lets all quit the smallminded approach and agree with treq

that would be inter reaping the rewards from handing us our asses due to the calciopoli outcome

who does take those 5 titles serious ? nobody, everyone is like "meh, juve knocked down and milan halfway, with only roma as some sort of competition"
    nobody valua's their titles

if we ever win 5 scudetto's in a row, i want people to be amazed, cause we won on equal advantage, and won regardless
