We were just unlucky... We created chances but somehow failed to convert them. Del Piero was disappointing; but we were more dominating.. Hit the bar with Vieira with Zlatan and Trez a few good chances. Nevermind. It'll probably be Inter's only silverware this season anyways

I didn't see the game and quite frankly I don't give a damn about the result. The Supercup doesn't mean shit and from what I gather we played pretty well anyways. Trez had a perfectly good goal disallowed, we hit the woodwork with Vieira and Del Piero missed an easy chance. Sounds to me like we more than held our own and the fact that we created good chances against one of our main Scudetto rivals with a squad deprived of a couple of key players and a few others not 100% fit bodes well for the season proper IMO.

I saw Mutu play for Romania in midweek and he was excellent (scored a screamer btw) so I'm surprised that Capello waited until extra time to introduce him. Del Piero did well against Ireland on Wednesday so I was hoping that he would be high on confidence. That obviously wasn't the case.

Ah well, hopefully we'll get things right when it really matters.

OK. Back from the wedding I had to leave for early in the second half. So it sounds like we were the unfortunate ones in this matchup. I was thinking about this on the way home: would I rather have Juve full of false confidence after winning a relatively meaningless trophy, or would I rather see us play well and stay hungry with a narrow defeat?

I came to the conclusion that I would rather see the later, even before seeing the final disappointing result. And we all know what happened after our Supercoppa victory over Milan in 2003...

i watched the match...Juve could hav won if not for the bad luck...Chimenti of coz is noway near Buffon...but to me, i have to admit Del Piero played a sux match...totally dissapointing...maybe it is time for him to move on?? i am so gutted when the commentator over n over again critisized him that he is a shadow of his past...and he is a falling legend etc...i cant really bear to hear that..so, for the sake of dignity i think DP should move to smaller clubs just like Baggio did in the past...then he will almost guarantee a starting 11 and can show his magic again..
Mutu did nothing in the match although his playing time was limited but i dun think Mutu is our solution...for me, the player i would get rid the most in Juve squad now is Zebina...he is really one hell of sux player...and Kovac doesn;t convince me that much too...we need a decent cover for Thuram and Cannavaro..le'ts hope Juve will pick up fast!

Capello: We deserved to win Sunday 21 August, 2005

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Capello and Juventus feel hard done by after their Supercup defeat and insist they are the moral victors.

“Juve deserved to win this trophy,” said the Coach after a 1-0 extra time loss to Inter last night. “We had several scoring opportunities and even hit the back of the net. That was disallowed, though it looked a good move to me.”

Television replays did indeed show that David Trezeguet’s goal on the stroke of half-time was not in an offside position, so the Bianconeri have reason to complain.

Patrick Vieira also hit the woodwork with a header and Adriano’s goal line clearance prevented Alessandro Del Piero from equalising in extra time, but it was Juan Sebastian Veron’s strike that decided the encounter.

“Inter scored with only their second shot on goal in the entire match,” continued Capello. “They did well to make the most of the only chance we allowed them. If there’s a team that dominated play and took the initiative, then that was Juventus. Now we hope that the Serie A Championship won’t go along similar lines.”

The Scudetto race is already starting with a psychological battle between Capello and Inter boss Roberto Mancini – a rivalry that goes back a very long way.

“With all due respect to Inter, the only thing they had over us was luck,” added Jonathan Zebina. “We even scored a goal that was incorrectly disallowed, while they had one shot on target and go home with the trophy. Well done to Inter, but we leave this Final with our heads held high.”

Juventus doesn’t carry off the Italian Super Cup won by Inter thanks to a goal by Veron scored during the extra time.

Pouring rain over the ‘Delle Alpi’ that counts about a 30.000 attendance for the Italian Super Cup challenge between Juventus and Inter. Great excitement for the first official appearance of the Italian League Champions lined up by Capello with the typical 4-4-2 with Chimenti as keeper replacing an injured Buffon and Kovac as central defender due to Thuram’s hurt. Recovery for Vieira, instead, that in front of his public nearly missed goal after just a minute with a header on a Nedved’s corner kick. Effort by Ibrahimovic on 11’, but the free kick is deflected to corner. On the Inter side, on 18’ Veron attempts a long distance shot out of target and on 26’ incursion by Martins with great making up by Zambrotta. On 27’ Toldo engaged by a shot from Ibrahimovic who later leads three Bianconeri’s attacks: on 37’, picks a cross by Camoranesi, sends on to Trezeguet but the Nerazurri’s defence sets free. On 39’again the Swede serves Trezeguet beaten by Toldo’s coming out. On 44’ same protagonists: throw in by Ibrahimovic for the Frenchman’s shot to goal, but referee disallows calling offside. First half ends 0-0.

Second half starts with Juventus attacking dangerously on 5’ with a distance shot by Ibrahimovic, on 11’ with a fine combination between the Swede and Trezeguet and on 12’ with Vieira’s header over a cross by Camoranesi that hits the post. On 15’ Adriano engages Chimenti and on 22’ Martins is intercepted well by Cannavaro. Few minutes on and Juventus is back to the front on 25’ with Camoranesi serving Ibrahimovic who nods the ball over the crossbar, and on 27’ with Del Piero, sent in for Camoranesi, served close to the goal line sending high. In the last quarter of an hour attempts for Juventus by Nedved (34’) and Ibrahimovic (46’), both out of target, for Inter Veron and Pizarro, Chimenti saves effortlessly. Extra time required.

After 4’ into the extra time’s first half Del Piero strikes a great right legged shot that unfortunately beats on Emerson positioned in front of the goal line. On 6’ is Inter, instead, reaching advantage: Adriano turns from far and moves the ball back to Veron who running to the the edge of the area strikes behind Chimenti (0-1). Reaction by Juventus with Del Piero’s free kick nearly missed goal bound by Zalayeta, in for Trezeguet. During second half of extra time the Bianconeri try to equalize, Capello sends in Mutu for Zebina, but result don’t change.
