I would sack Benitez if they don't qualify for the champions league. There only chance now is winning the Europa League. Also if Roma comes in third I would consider sacking Garcia because they crashed out of the Champions League, Europa League, and most importantly might finish behind there hated rival Lazio.

Gentile didn't have any trouble catching Maradona, player of superior quality than Messi. There's video posted a while ago of the epic battle between the two, after which Maradona came out heavily bruised. Football was different back then. Now there are more and more ballerinas like CR that are looking to fall to the ground after every single duel. Chiellini last year got a red card after slightly throwing CR out of balance. Disgareceful standards of officiating and offensive players are fully taking the advantage. Serie A on the other hand still has some of that rustic charm to it, as there are battles across the field and players are giving and taking blows accordingly.
FFS bale owned Maicon (who was arguably the best fullback at the time) and Lucio at their best and most importantly Javier Zanetti who is a legendary defender and very tough to beat. How did he do it? He is a good dribbler (nothing crazy but good) but has insane pace and they just couldnt keep up with him. For 90 minutes he could sprint at insanely high speeds and dribbles very well.
The quality of defenders seem to have decreased as defenses have been conceding much more than they used to. How do you explain that? What caused this decline in defense?
My explanation is that defending is getting harder than before not because defensive players are suddenly and inexplicably born dumb and talentless but its rather because the game has become a lot faster than before and the type of fitness required has become much higher than before. Players like Gentile were rough players but that neither makes them fast nor fit. Legendary players like Zanetti (who maintained his level until his injury and was always one of the best defensive fullbacks in the world for decades) struggled against the pace of Bale.
Look at the best players in the world today. Ronaldo, Messi, Ribery, Robben, Neymar, Bale, Hazard, Suarez all extremely fast players who can run for hours traditionally you'd have one or two per generation of those qualities and they were usually too one dimensional.
Apart from the notion that you can never be fair in making cross-generational comparisons (especially with large gaps), my point is that the footballers of today are much more fit than those that came decades ago. The sciences of fitness and dieting, the ball they use, the surfaces they run on, the training techniques... its all much more advanced than before. Maradona's body as a footballer would be unacceptable today.
Maicon certainly wasn't the best FB at that time, he was way past his prime, several years at least. And you're bringing Zanetti into this, 38 yo at that time, clearly in decline to make you point. Hilarious that the crux of your argument are 3 washed up defenders Maicon, Zanetti and Lucio and their inability to cope with an athlete in his prime. Surely you are capable of better. Barzagli on the other hand didn't have any difficulty to neutralize Hazard, extremely fast player according to you, when situation required it. Nesta owned Messi like a little bitch that he is, while also being at the dusk of his career. You can gain fitness levels, improve your endurance and almost every physical aspect you can take to another level with training and excercise, but where to position yourself and anticipate the movements of opponent and a ball, requires something else. That being said defenders like Nesta, Cannavaro, Maldini, Ferrara or Montero had required fitness levels that complimented their defensive aspects of the game and would make life extremely difficult to those players you named above.
