There'd be no problem with that. In Bundesliga there are 18 clubs as well and three are threatened by relegation each season. In their system two relegate automatically, whereas the third last has to play a direct two-legged fixture against the third of Bundesliga 2. In Lotito's suggestion it would be very, very similar, with one team relegating automatically and two doing play-offs.

I meant the first year from 20 to 18, the transition year. would there be 5 relegations? or a playoff between the 17th (4th from bottom) and 18th SerieA against 2nd and 3rd of SerieB sounds better. after that, penultimate team and 3rd from bottom against SerieB sounds ok, I was questioning the lack of talk and debate about the 18 team SerieA which imo is a bigger issue for relegation and promotion than what Lotito is talking about.
