Zeman: 'Barcelona wanted me'

By Football Italia staff

Cagliari Coach Zdenek Zeman reveals “Barcelona called me years ago, but we didn’t reach an agreement.”

The Czech tactician has been a Serie A fixture for decades, playing spectacular football at the likes of Foggia, Lazio, Roma and Pescara.

“Years ago I was called by Barcelona, we talked, but then didn’t reach an agreement,” Zeman told Spanish newspaper Marca.

The biggest criticism aimed at the Coach is that he has not won any major trophies in his career.

“Winning is not important, a Coach must think of improving the players at his disposal.”

Zeman also continued his crusade against doping in football, which sparked an investigation at Juventus and a revamp of integrators which were found to include undeclared substances.

“The health of a player is very important to me and I think to this day there are too many doping substances.

“There are players who have died just to win one more match. Those responsible for this certainly did not help football to grow.”

Apparently Inter and Roma are soon to be under UEFA's Investigation and they might not be allowed to participate in European competitions starting from the next season due to breaching FFP. In 3 consecutive years Inter accumulated 180m loss, while Roma is close to 100m.

The acceptable deviation is EUR 5 million.However it can exceed this level up to the following amounts only if such excess is entirely covered by contributions from equity participants and/or related parties:
a) EUR 45 million for the monitoring period assessed in the licence seasons 2013/14 and 2014/15;
b) EUR 30 million for the monitoring period assessed in the licence seasons 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18;
c) a lower amount as decided in due course by the UEFA Executive Committee for the monitoring periods assessed in the following years.
