He's got potential to become very good midfielder in a few years. He's 19 yo, played decent number of games this season, but rarely impressed in any of them. For some of that is Mazzari to blame as he tends to relocate him all over the mid and even tried to play him as regista, while Mateo is pure AM and even LW. Mateo also needs to figure things out, it's different to play in Italy and Croatia and he tends to dwell on the ball for too long.

I'd definitely say Kovacic is best playing at the base of midfield and having deep runs, not being located up the pitch
