Back in that day the Cup was first tier. Cup winners played there and league champions played in the Champions league (I think today the CL should be named different, it's anything but a champions cup with teams like arsenal playing in it).
Based on what you do you compare strength in general?
They don't pay attention on CL either, apparently.
Nothing wrong with EL, only Italian teams don't take it seriously. Lesser clubs should also enjoy European football and there are many tough opponents there.
If they enjoyed European football they would probably be balancing on the verge of the relegation to Serie B. Not every team has a long and prepared bench for all competitions, especially when you have problems with money.
What about the CL. They paid attention. Juve, just screwed themselves up (no excuses here), Napoli were just incredibly unlucky. Bilan are having the worst times in their history of the club over the past 20 or more years probably.
And yea, that's the point. You can't compare the strenght in general because it's impossible. I don't think that comparing champs strenght just looking at success in Europe is right.
I just meant in pure sporting terms. Bundesliga is definitely better when it comes to stadiums, structure, the tv production etc. So yes, Serie-A needs to go down that route.
But are you really certain that clubs like Hamburg, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke would beat the milanese clubs, Napoli, Lazio, Fiorentina etc.?
I remember last season, Lazio knocked out a couple of Bundesliga teams in the EL.
Their stadiums, fans, youth systems, production etc are fucking LIGHT YEARS ahead of Serie A, but like you said, once you go past Borussia and Bayern, their league isn't really that much better than what you'd find at Serie A at the moment.
La Liga and EPL are clearly much stronger than Serie A. Not even up for debate.
Okay, amazing logic, so Juventus made a huge mistake in 1984 when we won cup winners cup with Platini, Boniek, Rossi, Scirea in our line-up? The teams that we faced back then were - Lech, PSG, Haka, Man Utd, Porto, Trapattoni was so stupid to play with his best line-up, who give a damn about cup winners cup, let's move it away from our museum, only CL trophy does matter
You can't compare that cup with the current EL. That league was a much higher level than it is now. Just look at this season, we are competing with #1 from Portugal, and #5 and 8 from Spain. If you believe that that's our level than you have no ambition at all. You will seriously get no recognition from top players (that we all want, right?) if you keep competing in the EL. Getting in that competition in the first place means you've seriously had a horrible season before or you underachieved in the CL that season.
It's obviously better to be 2nd in the CL than win the EL but id rather win the EL than lose in the Cl semis.
As for the strength of serie A, I'm surprised this is even being debated. There are three leagues better than us right now. And saying Italian teams don't take international cups seriously is such a sad excuse. It's not true. Teams like Lazio and Udinese go out early because they aren't good enough. Not because they care more about the league. Teams that make it to the EL are usually safe from relegation and only playing in Serie A to earn a EL spot the following year. It's ridiculous to say that they play seriously in Serie A to make it to Europe but once they're in Europe, they don't care anymore.
There is a huge problem in Italy and I would argue that stadiums are only one step to solve the problem. There's much more than can be done and it starts by acknowledging that the league is in deep shit.
If they enjoyed European football they would probably be balancing on the verge of the relegation to Serie B. Not every team has a long and prepared bench for all competitions, especially when you have problems with money.
So, what you're basically saying is that Spanish clubs have stronger depth? Well, yea (probably), which makes them stronger... that's common sense. You see, unlike those Italian teams who'd struggle for relegation (as you said), we're seeing a semi final of Sevilla - Valencia at the moment. Unlike those Italian teams, they are currently 5th and 8th in Spain. (Lazio is 8th and Viola is 4th).
So in other words, we're seeing a more competitive and better Spanish teams, simply because they handle two competitions quite well, and do not struggle in relegation zone.
What about the CL. They paid attention. Juve, just screwed themselves up (no excuses here), Napoli were just incredibly unlucky. Bilan are having the worst times in their history of the club over the past 20 or more years probably.
Lol, i wasn't even talking about success in Europe, i know facts myself. I talk about the strenght of the leagues in general. Btw, it's evident the Italian teams prefer to put all their efforts in the league and don't pay attention to the EL because it's not useful financially. I don't understand why this competition absolutely exist, because more than half of the teams don't give a rat's ass about it. They just take it seriously when they get into the quarter-finals. I think it's more about mentality. Spanish teams think that cup is very important, Italian teams doesn't see it that way.
I remember last season, Lazio knocked out a couple of Bundesliga teams in the EL.

So what you're saying that Bayern and Dortmund are superior clubs, which is totally right, and how other teams are basically just like in Serie A. That said, along with the stadiums, fans, youth systems, production etc. IMO makes the league stronger than Italian, no?

We don't know. Its hypothetical to say the last team in Serie A will beat the last team in Bundesliga. But the fact is BL, has higher coefficient points than us and that placed them in 3rd spot.
Ya, you might say its because Serie A clubs dunt pay importance to the EL thus we losing the coefficient points, but if that was the case then its our fault. Its a weakness as well.
And player to player, theres a lot of good players in those team. We even got Vidal , the best player in Serie A from Bayer Leverkusen. Bundesliga has improved and is no longer the same as it was 10 years ago.

Because of the referees mistakes, few years ago Fioretina owned Bayern but they were robbed, but you don't remember it, you don't rember that BVB sucked dick for 2 seasons in a row when they failed to go through from EL and CL group stage, you only remember that they were in CL final, nothing more important
I can't believe Dortmund is still being underrated, what do they have to do so people take them seriously? Jeez... like playing great in CL and even winning Bundesliga was not enough.

What do you remember from Inter, Lazio, Fiorentina, Roma in Europe? I guess you only remember Inter doing well with Mourinho and nothing except that. When it comes to other teams there's nothing to remember in the first place.

Which makes me right when I say that Serie A is in a downfall for quite a while now. It's not just this year, but all years before.
First of all, i'm not denying the fact about the CL part. Yeah, it's a big downfall, but it's just a matter of time Italian teams will be back and win it when no one will be expecting them to.
What about the EL part. It's way more difficult to stay in Serie A than in the La liga. Some teams even gets destroyed by 8 goals while we face Catania and they fight nails and tooths to stay here. Mentalities are different. Sometimes i get an impression that those teams in Spain doesn't even care if they going to the second league or not.
Rather than calling it weak, lets just say its a decent league but the pure fact of the matter is Germany,England and Spain are faaaaaar ahead of italian football right now which is really making serie a look very inferior and now with france getting dem oil monies, the league is really reaching peasant status.
Money is impt ofc but Italian football needs a lot of reforms even football wise to catch up t o the top 3 leagues. Its atleast 4-5 yrs behind the top 3.One cant juz sit and say most things are ok in italian football.
Its literally becoming a survival of the fittest race as far as the top leagues are concerned and serie a is far behind that in that race.
