I would take the opposite view, that the italian clubs mentioned would be favourites in those ties. But that's fine, really. I'm sure it would be even enough.

But at least when it comes to the bundesliga, it just proves my point that the gap isn't really that big (in this case I'm not even sure it is a gap, in pure sporting terms), and that's all I'm really saying.

But when Dule and other members just shout out "Serie-A is a joke", "Serie-A is pathetic" and at the same time praises Bundesliga up in the skies, they're not really saying anything at all, they're not bringing any nuance and reasoning into the discussion*. They're just venting frustration and knee-jerking, and it gets really annoying.

    *discuttion
Simply because I think it's quite sad that both Bayern and Dortmund would toy with us and Roma, literally. And we're by far the strongest teams. Not too long ago I'd agree with you most likely, how Italian teams would be stronger. But over the past 10 years it was just a downfall, especially from Milan teams, that made the league quite weak in Europe. It's just us, and even us choked in the easiest group.

We share almost the same sentiments here.

I consider Serie A to be the 4th best league in Europe. Too far away from La Liga and EPL, not so far behind Bundesliga and not too far away from Ligue 1.
    This.

I was not asking for advice. I'm watching it because I love Juve, but that doesn't have to mean I have to be blind and not see how weak the league is. I actually find EPL quite boring and there's no way I could watch it. But that doesn't mean their teams are crap.

It's just bitter fans who can't accept the fact of Serie A downfall that happened long time ago.
You should've asked though, it's about time. It makes me laugh when someone like you talking how La Liga is better than Serie A just because they have three very strong teams. Barca, Real and Atletico. How about other ones? There are 17 of them still left. You remember that at least? You win champs by defeating provincial teams, not just the best ones. Why did you mods even gave a name of "La i beat you 8-0 league" to that topic after all? Of course, I'm talking about the perspective of football, not stadiums, infrastructure and etc.

I accept that this league is in a downfall, but c'mon it ain't that shit.

Sorry, I misunderstood you in your first post. I agree when you say that this team needs a European trophy badly in it's current state. Normally though, losing a CL final is better than winning the EL.
:agree: and in our case I'd even take 2 EL wins over a CL final loss. We're such expert fuck-ups that it would take some consistency to get over the mental hurdle.

Valencia and Seville are the other semi-finalists in the EL FFS.

Imagine Inter (5th in their league like Seville) vs Torino (8th in their league like Valencia) in a semi final in Europe.

Based on what are you saying that Italian teams would be superior? Based on their success in Europe? What have you seen from Italian teams in Europa League?

    2005–06 Sevilla won
    2006 - 2007 Sevilla won
    2009–10 Atletico won
    2011–12 Atletico won

Last time Italian side won it was... 1998–99 season when Parma won it.

But you're imagining which teams would win it when facing each other, but completely ignoring the fact how there's no success in Europe whatsoever.

No one apart Zach is saying that Serie A is as strong as ever (even he doesn't really say that), but some comments are ridiculous. Talking about Serie A which as if it has become an amateur league... If Serie A is amateur then Bundesleague is too, because they are very similar in streanghts.

So what does that leave us with? Two leagues, that are worth mentioning as somewhat strong and all the rest are joke? A bit too much of extreme opinion I would say. And this just shows that some people can't live with Serie A not being the best and are just bitter about it talking about it as if it has become some sunday league joke.

So? Italians teams are using 2nd roster in EL, should i remind you this fact? Should i remind you that for many many years italians were not giving a single fuck about european cups and they preffered scudetto to international cups?! While now in Spain these teams know their limit, so they can focus on EL glory

Winning UEFA Cup is better then CL finalist is when you start in the Cup, not when you go out of CL. In the first one it's doing the best you can and winning it, in the second it's just consolation prize.

It's like you're saying winning Coppa Italia would be better than winning Serie A.

Two different competition where one is a lot superior to the other. Of course being 2nd in CL is a lot bigger achievement than winning a much, much weaker EL.

Lol, i wasn't even talking about success in Europe, i know facts myself. I talk about the strenght of the leagues in general. Btw, it's evident the Italian teams prefer to put all their efforts in the league and don't pay attention to the EL because it's not useful financially. I don't understand why this competition absolutely exist, because more than half of the teams don't give a rat's ass about it. They just take it seriously when they get into the quarter-finals. I think it's more about mentality. Spanish teams think that cup is very important, Italian teams doesn't see it that way.

That's ridiculous. I'd rather lose a final in a tournament while competing with the best teams in the world than compete with (with all due respect) second tier. Now i'm not talking about this season, because it would be an immense achievement to win the EL, but if this club really wants to make a step forward in quality winning EL and even serie A on a yearly basis is not going to be enough. To get the recognition by teams and top-players we need to perform in the CL. Everyone considers Dortmund as a serious treat, why? because they had an amazing run last year and put a hell of a fight against Real Madrid this year. It would be amazing to win the EL this season with all the experience gained and again an European trophy after many years, but it shouldn't be our norm to compete in the EL.

Based on what you do you compare strength in general?

They don't pay attention on CL either, apparently.

Nothing wrong with EL, only Italian teams don't take it seriously. Lesser clubs should also enjoy European football and there are many tough opponents there.

SPL is better than Serie A, but you can't seriously make this comparison because the whole world knows Serie A teams don't give a fuck about EL.

That is fine, I can live with that. It's not that you're wrong.

But should we talk about Italian success in the Champions League? I don't think there's much to talk about.

Okay, amazing logic, so Juventus made a huge mistake in 1984 when we won cup winners cup with Platini, Boniek, Rossi, Scirea in our line-up? The teams that we faced back then were - Lech, PSG, Haka, Man Utd, Porto, Trapattoni was so stupid to play with his best line-up, who give a damn about cup winners cup, let's move it away from our museum, only CL trophy does matter
