No doubt about that. TBH I never thought we'd have any team at our back this season (seeing Inter and Milan before season started). I thought Napoli were decent enough but not a threat. Biggest surprise is Roma I think, nobody expected them to be there, especially not when we demolished everything on our way and they still managed to keep on the right track. But it was still obvious that Scudetto was ours, long time ago. And it's kinda sad when you see our impressive record in Italy and then compare it with our achievement in Europe. Yet we're the strongest team in Serie A without a doubt..

How would you (not JJ in particular) rate this season? (from 1-10 mark) -- if we end up with another Scudetto and seeing we didn't pass the group stages in CL, while we got knocked out from Coppa. I guess we'd have to compare with something which is in this case previous season.
I thought Napoli would run us close, didn't expect much from the others (thought Inter might be within 15 points). Roma are the obvious surprise, and look a potential threat for next year and beyond.

The biggest challenge this season was always keeping focus. It's easy to see that we're a much weaker side when we take our foot off the gas. We're not a side of super technical players, but very effective players who need to stay focused and cohesive to play at a high level. This is something which has cost us in Europe, and may need to be remedied with the addition of one or two maverick players.

It's obvious that the league is still weak as a whole, simply because the other traditional big clubs are so inconsistent and have the same weak mentality we had before Conte. For me this just highlights our mental strength, which is a very unappreciated part of the game. We believe we're going to win every game, and teams face us with fear. It's important we keep this psychological upper hand as long as possible, because once it starts to slip then games become more difficult, and it can disappear quickly.

I think there is more to come from this team when you consider that we have been able to get away with closing up shop on one goal leads several times, but I think that is both symptomatic of Conte's mental approach and from physical and mental exhaustion. He asks a lot, but there is always the next game in mind at a certain point.

If we get 95 points and make the EL final I'd struggle to not give us an 8-8.5, bearing in mind that I would have taken another CL QF this season, so I'm dropping two points for our elimination. The Coppa we don't care about and can only win if the dice drop nicely, we don't even play our strongest team in the final.

Had a discussion the other night with a work colleague who was of the opinion that Rio Ferdinand was a better defender than Maldini.

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry, in the end I just laughed in his face.
Work colleagues seem to have some ridiculous thoughts to footballing matters. I have the same issue especially when it comes to discussing football outside of the UK

Now that we took a big lead in Serie A do you think we'll play more key players in EL? Or we'll just keep our old routine and rotate the hell out of the squad?
It all depends on if we get past Fiorentina I think. Against Viola we will not see a full first team just some elements and if we get past them we will start seeing more first team players in the EL than in Serie A. He will not change the setup immediately just gradually. I think he also wants to get the points record, he's probably using it as a motivator for the squad.

Roma are bound to sell their best players so i'd wait to see how their situation develops before calling them a legit title challenger in the coming years.I think Napoli have a more solid project than them and have better capabilities of retaining their best players than Roma as well.

What? That's fucked up. Really sad for a player to go thru that kind of time frame injured.
Yeah with these of injuries you never know how he does when he recovers.

Big blow to you guys, and a blow for the WC in general. Guy was primed for this tournament and now he misses it.
Feel so sorry for him, the guy was giving his all for our NT, him,Robben and RVP were the only one who had been selected allready for the WC2014 squad.

indeed... now we have to field Clasie, Maher or some other shitty midfielder
Nigel de Jong.

How did he get injuried? There was no contact, no? Just an akward foot placing or what?
His knee got a knock while it wasn'r fully recovered from a previous injury and Garcia let him play.

He got injured mid week with the national team and he played regardless, serves him right to fight for the cause of a shitty club like Roma.

There was this same discussion last night in the Serie A show here, the final word is to the player. If the doctors give the ok but the player does not want to risk an injury the coach will let them play. That came from a former player.

Man that sucks for a player. I know the feeling when going not fully fit and getting an injury... But man, not being fit and going out for that long is devastating.

Very true, Roma needed him yesterday and that's the biggest reason why he played yesterday, think it was a mutual agreement between him and Garcia. it's just a big bummer for him and our NT despite the fact he's playing for Roma.

It was a key game, so I guess it was understandable. Strootman also seems like the sort of character who would want to play.

Napoli did the same, they sold their best players and still will, but they reinvested it. Roma's owners don't seem to be small thinkers, but it is a club which has consistently ruined itself from the inside out.

I hate roma and strootman but it would have been enough if he was out for the rest of the season. Tragic to be out for so long, and who knows if he will ever get back to this level.
