I've gotta see that Serie A deal before I believe it. It's amazing how slow they've been in realising that structural and marketing changes are required if we aren't to become a third tier league.
My suspicion when reading the article was that, while they were talking about the foreign rights for the Bundesliga, the deal they are speaking about for Serie A is just for domestic rights.

May be wrong on that, though.

how good is this deal really ?

900mil, sounds alot, but there are 20 teams. I'd like to know how they would distribute it.

Still think we are getting far less then we should, and some bottom teams are getting much more then they should.

Looking at the 150-160mil real and barcelona get

not really. the giants got where they are thorugh hard work and dedication.

if the other team work hard, go through school, and play their cards intelligently they too can rise.

I am tired of this liberal attitude of wanting everything while doing no work to earn it.

like it's not the same in italy. everyone knows that the scudetto has been between inter, milan, or juve for the last decade. in la liga it has been between barca and real. matter of fact valencia won it in 2003. the last time one of the big teams didn't win in italy was in 2001 with lazio.

I have to disagree here Red.
Its only unfair from a socialist point of view.

Barcelona and madrid are carrying that league for a decade. People from all over the world want to tune in to watch them play. Do they care about the little shitters ? not quite no.

The most fair thing is individually selling your rights. Like this tv companies will want to pay you what you are worth to their market.

Seriously, we could get tripple our current figure in italy, considering the gigantic fanbase compared to others

indeed. the small teams are bottom feeders anyway. they deserve nothign, and contribue nothing.
When people want to see madrid or fagcelona, why should a small team "deserve" to get money out of that ?

Roma won it in '01.

Lazio were 2000.

Real Madrid and Barcelona can't exist without someone to play against and if that opposition gets too shit, people will get bored and stop watching.

Do things, from a TV perspective, properly, like England and Germany have and you'll end up in a far, far better situation overall than what there is for Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain.

If you want to kill a league and just be a big club in isolation, by all means take the Spanish option.

I disagree, you are probably thinking Celtic and Rangers.... Madrid and Barcelona are doing great in the Champions League, as long as they are the teams to beat in UCL, Spanish League will always be relevant. Conversely if they money is distributed equally leading to competitive league but Madrid and Barcelona not among the best in the world La liga would be irrelevant. Best in the world is what matters the most.

I think if there was a better TV deal in Spain, Barca & Madrid would still always be at or near the top, they would continue to have appeal. But it's a step towards additional quality teams as well, which would make the league more attractive to watch for someone who doesn't like Barca or Madrid. Increased viewership, plus the potential for other clubs to increase their worldwide fanbase, would be a good thing for La Liga. Right now Atleti are managing to be competitive, but who knows for how long they can sustain it.

According to wikipedia, Italy got 181m euros for foreign rights in 10-11 and 11-12.

Don't know any figure for 12-13 and 13-14

Italy needs to get it's shit together in relation to foreign rights, that's where the money is

Can't wait for Napoli - Roma. Potentially a fantastic game, love that Garcia is doing well. I've always liked the guy and his football philosophy.
