Lazio and German striker Miroslav Klose is reportedly upset at a new wave of "racist" taunts to have hit Italy, this time concerning the player himself.
Football fans from Italy to America have nicknamed the former Bayern player Dr. Mengele for the style and speed that Klose has while running. Dr. Josef Mengele, a former Nazi officer and a physician at the concentration camp Auschwitz, was widely known for being a fast runner. But Klose is not taking too kindly to the comparisons.
"I have never even seen Mengele run," Klose slammed. "This type of racist abuse from fans needs to stop. I may be German, I may be white, but I'm not a monster like Mengele."
Lazio supporters disagree with the striker and love to ring out in chants during a match. Countless times at Stadio Olimpico you can hear "Miroslav!" screamed by supporters in the Curva Nord, followed by an even more fierce "Mengele!" emanating from the Curva Sud. The fans also love to scream "we want the doctor!" when Miroslav is on the bench.
Louis Saha has also been nicknamed Charles Taylor, the Liberian war criminal.
