You can argue whether that goal should be within the rules or not, but the officials undoubtedly made the right call given the current interpretation of the rule.

I think think the offside rule is currently too liberal and weighted too far in favour of the attacking side, though.

I'd have no problem with goals such as Fiorentina's one tonight not being allowed.

Destro is over rated. Welbeck and Sturridge show the same promise if not more and that doesnt say much.
Welbeck doesn't have a first touch.

Sturridge is an idiot.

Destro will end up a far better player than either of them.

nah, seems fair to me. removing that rule would have teams pull shit like Roma did all the time.

Were teams all doing that constantly ten or fifteen years ago?

I'm not going for taking things back to the seventies where it was weighted to much in favour of the defenders.

If Rodriguez had scored himself, rather than squaring it to Rancaglia, I'd allow the goal.

I don't like that someone can be offside and then become onside again in a way that give the defence absolutely no chance of recovering, as was the case with Roncaglia's goal tonight.

Ye, we do, it's a fucking PASSIVE OFFSIDE, deal with it
thanks , i was wondering how its called in english

in dutch its "positie buitenspell", forgot it was passive offside The refferee will NEVER call for offside when you are in a passive offside position, he'll only call offside when the ball is passed to you.

Its the exact same for cards. if the referee would follow the book, no game ends without 4 red cards trough second yellow

So you're all saying he didn't gain an advantage by being in an offisde position even though that allowed him to score the goal?
It's not about what is precisely said in the rules.

It's the interpretation that counts.

Currently, the intepretation of the rule means that Fiorentina's goal was perfectly legal.

That's exactly what I mean. Can you please show me where in the rules it says that this cannot be interpreted as gaining an advantage by being offside.

The current interpretation was brought in because FIFA wanted more goals and to encourage more attacking play.

And I'm fairly sure officials are supposed to break the play up into phases, so that initial free kick would be the first phase and the pass from Pasqual (?) would be the second phase.
