Former Socceroos goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac has alleged a 20004 Serie A relegation play-off match he played in was fixed.
The two-leg play-off, between Serie A relegation candidates Perugia and Serie B promotion hopefuls Fiorentina, ended with Fiorentina progressing 2-1 on aggregate.
But Kalac accused the referee of rigging the match in the larger club's favour.
"I got relegated with Perugia, we had to play a play-off match against Fiorentina. Obviously Fiorentina is a massive club, Perugia was just a little club," Kalac told the SportsFan Clubhouse.
"It'd be fair to say it was scandalous, the way we got knocked out.
"I'm going to say the game was fixed, because we could not cross the halfway line without the ref pulling the game up.
"That was the first time I'd seen something like that, I couldn't believe it.
"I'm talking two matches, so 180 minutes of football, and we had no chance to win."
Italian football is no stranger to match fixing allegations, with Fiorentina and fellow powerhouses Juventus, AC Milan and Lazio all having points deducted after being found guilty of fixing allegations in 2006.
