Romania international and Cesena star Adrian Mutu has stated his belief that he could have won the Ballon d'Or in his peak years had he made the right decisions.

The attacker wore the jerseys of illustrious clubs such as Inter, Chelsea, Juventus and Fiorentina over the past 10 years, but his career was marred by a failed drug test during his spell with the Premier League giants, and Mutu feels the cocaine incident may have cost him a shot at the prestigious individual award.

"Maybe if I had made other decisions in the past, I could even have won the Ballon d'Or at some point. I'd rather not think about that too much, though," Mutu was quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport.

The 32-year-old then looked back at his proposed transfer to Roma three years ago, and feels he made the right decision to stay with Fiorentina at the time.

"I considered going to Roma. I have always had warm feelings for the club. However, we were playing at a very high level with Fiorentina at the time. In the end, I think I made the right decision to stay put."

Mutu has scored three goals in nine Serie A appearances since joining Cesena in the summer of 2011.
