Wow. I have some sort of football disease. I was going to Google for Berlusconi and saw in the suggestions that Merkel was one of them. I thought to myself what did the guy from Genoa do only to realize later it was the Chanselor of fucking Germany 
in the future, quite possibly. With SB no longer PM, and possibly leaving politics for good, I'd expect him to take up his old post for the foreseeable future ... depends on if he is done with playing politician or not, I'd say.
The Italian economy is larger and more complex than that, and can't be compared to Greece or even Spain or Portugal. It isn't a country of layabouts, people don't have high levels of borrowing or debt at a domestic or business level. It's a manufacturing giant. It's the political procedure in place at the top level that has caused the biggest problem. Having debt and dealing with it on a hand to mouth basis was risky but sufficient in a solid economic climate, but once fear sets in and rates rise it becomes a constant battle to just stay above the water.
