I checked the last ~35 serie A seasons and almost always the team with the least number of defeats wins the scudetto. There are exceptions though and, unfortunately, this season's Juve looks more and more like those exceptions:

2004/2005 (season has 38 rounds)
1. Juventus 26 w - 8 D - 4 L (86 pts)
2. Milan 23 w - 10 D - 5 L (79 pts)
3. Inter 18 w - 18 D - 2 L (72 pts)

2001/2002 (34 rounds)
1. Juventus 20 W - 11 D - 3 L (71 pts)
2. Roma 19 W - 13 D - 2 L (70 pts)

1981/1982 (30 rounds)
1. Juventus 19 W - 8 D - 3 L (65 pts)
2. Fiorentina 17 W - 11 D - 2 L (62 pts)

1980/1981 (30 rounds)
1. Juventus 17 W - 10 D - 3 L (61 pts)
2. Roma 14 W - 14 D - 2 L (56 pts)

1978/1979 (30 rounds)
1. Milan 17 W - 10 D - 3 L (61 pts)
2. Perugia 11 W - 19 D - 0 L (52 pts)

Look at those teams with few losses how much they have draws ... reminds us a lot of our reality.
There have been cases in the recent history, though, where a team with a big number of draws won the scudetto.

For example, in a 34 rounds season in 1996/97 Juventus won the scudetto with 17 wins, 14 draws and 3 defeats. Milan did something similar in 1992/93. They won the scudetto with 18 wins, 14 draws and 2 defeats in 34 rounds.

The problem with us is that in only 24 rounds we have 11 draws and if we continue this way we will have 17 draws by the end of the season, which might be proven to be too much. That's gonna give us a total of 80 pts at best and ever since they have 38 rounds in serie A, the scudetto winning team won at least 82 pts (Milan last year and Inter the season before. In the previous seasons the winners had 84 pts or more)
