I'm not talking about it from a financial point of view. I'm not expecting much in return from getting rid of Grosso, Amauri and Grygera, just want that kind of players gone.
Who is interested in their high demands? It's the reason why Tiago hasn't transfer to Atlético, because we gave him loads of money. Only way to get rid of them would be to terminate contract, and that would be suicidal.

I'd accept low values for them as well, but it's hard to find clubs that can pay them.

And people wonder why we can't compete with them, can we really afford buying 11 players especially demanding these wages? like Zlatan's Robinho's and Van Bommel's?
Actually, that "squad" is cheaper than it may seem at first glance - Amelia is on free loan, Montelongo - on loan, Yepes was free with salary of 800k or 1 mil, Sokratis is either fully owned by Milan for 3-4 mil + a youngster or two or he is half owned by Milan and Genoa.
Urby cost Milan 1-1.5 mil to get him now and the salary is 1.5 or so mil/season, van Bommel is free (Bayern rescinded his contract) and I doubt he is getting more than 2.5 mil/season considering his age and also he wanted to come to Milan not for money but to win something - there is a good chance he is actually getting paid less at Milan than at Bayern, eitherway, it's a short term deal.

Boateng cost Milan and Genoa about 3 mil each and salary is 1.5 mil or so. Cassano is for free (or Milan had to pay at most 1 mil, if that) and salary is 2.5-2.8 mil/season or so ... basically so far, this is less than what Juve paid for either Pepe or Martinez.

Then of course is Robinho who would cost about 18 mil and salary of about 4 mil (this is Amauri's salary) and of course Ibra but a player like that for 24 mil and salary less than what Dinho was getting, I am sure Juve could have found the funds for a difference maker like Ibra considering Marrota and co spent 50+ mil for a bunch of average players, not counting the 15+ they are getting ready to spend for a failed promise like Aquilani.

All in all, it's been a prety smart mercato by Galliani as, apart from Ibra and Robinho, who are both proving to be worth every penny, the rest of Milan's mercato cost the club at most 10 mil in transfer fees and the salaries are pretty low for todays standards, in line with the new policy of the club.

Milan already had a strong team and CL football. The only players I'd take from Milan's mercato would be Ibrahimovic and maybe Cassano with some guarantees. The fact is we can't attract players like Ibrahimovic in our current situation so we have to spend €15m on 'mediocre' players like Krasic, Bonucci and Martinez to develope them into top players, reach CL, and then buy more established players to compliment our longer term plan of developing.

On thing you didn't mention is how Milan spend €30m more than Juve per year on salaries, and that is before Cassano, Emanuelson and Van Bommel, contrast that with Toni who we have added on €1.5m. So there is a difference of over €35m, which for us is two top class players. Ibrahimovic is on €9m a year, completely unthinkable for us.

I agree with you that Milan is most likely paying a significnatly higher amount for salaries but that is the result of failed policies of the last 3-4 years when contracts, RICH contracts, were given to players who were approaching 30+ and whose contribution to the team was grossly overestimated - you have your Grossos and Amauris, Milan have their Jankulovskis and Kaladzes and what not.
Furthermore, a vast portion of the salaries at Milan go to players whose contracts are expiring next year and there is good chance they will be either redimensionalised or simply not renewed - several steps in the right direction unlike previous years.

Anyways, my point was about the new players coming in - they have not cost a lot while their salaries are rarely more than 2mil/season, which is laughable for the standards Milan have set in previous years. Sure Ibra is an exception - those 9 mil include incentives based on what the club wins and how the player performs - but still, a player like that I am sure juve could have more than afforded by cutting their dead weight elsewhere - e.g. when the team needs rebuilding, having a 33-34 yo GC who commands salary of 5-6 mil or so, if I am not mistaken, is pure luxury.

Furthermore, the way the Ibra deal is structured would ease the financial burden from his salary - Ibra is on a free "loan" this 1st season, while Milan has to pay 24 mil spread over the next 3 years (counting from the end of this season) ... I believe that it is exactly this that allowed Milan to afford Ibra as his salary was mentioned many times as the reason why his coming to Milan would be unthinkable in the weeks before the transfer.

As for paying 15 mil for average players, 15 mil is no peanuts, that amount, when wisely spent could very well bring in 1 and even 2 excellent players as opposed to 1 average player - it all comes down to the choices being made - I hardly need to remind you how many players, better than all new Juve reinforcements, were bought by smaller italian clube like Napoli, Lazio, etc for pretty low transfer sums and salaries - obviously, the better options to spend that 50 mil or so Juve did this last transfer season were available ... the problem was that the people who were making the decisions didn't see them.

At the end of the day, there is alsways a way around obstacles, you just have to be smart enough to figure that out - something both Milan and Juve lacked in the years after calciopoli. Lately, Milan seems to have woken up, my guess is that Juve needs to get rid of Marrotta and some others before they do the same.

Other than things we've only seen with hindsight, and maybe overpaying for some of the players, Marotta's done a decent job so far. His plan seems to be getting rid of as much dead weight as possible, reducing the age and wage bill. He's hardly had a massive budget to work with and he had to spread it out on several average players (who will hopefully become just squad players) rather than 1 or 2 world class players, to replace the outgoing players. I trust there will be a significant improvement in the squad if we manage to qualify for the CL.

Milan to bring in a full-back too
Wednesday 26 January, 2011

Milan might not have finished in the January transfer market just yet with reports linking the club with Maxwell, Jose Enrique and Diego Contento.

The Rossoneri have already completed three new signings in the last month, namely Mark Van Bommel, Urby Emanuelson and Antonio Cassano.

Asked if he would satisfy Max Allegri's desire for a full-back, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani said: “We will also buy him one of them.”

Milan have been linked with Barcelona's former Inter defender Maxwell, partly because he is a client of Mino Raiola, who has done a lot of business with Galliani of late.

However, bureaucratic problems tied to the fact he is considered a non-EU citizen mean the deal is a non-starter.

Milan are said to be looking at alternatives solutions, such as Newcastle United's Jose Enrique and Bayern Munich's Italian youngster Diego Contento.

Maxwell IMO. Follows Ibra all around Europe.
