Antonio Cassano won't have his contract at Sampdoria torn up as the arbitration panel decides to reinstate him in the squad, but he faces a sharp cut in wages.

Il Corriere dello Sport and La Gazzetta dello Sport report the latest from the rescission case suggests the arbitration panel will not grant Sampdoria their rescission application following the bitter feud with Riccardo Garrone.

Instead, they are likely to opt for Cassano to be allowed back into the squad, but they will punish him by cutting his wages.

It is said they will order his €2.8 million per annum pay to be slashed by half until the end of his contract in 2013.

If such a decision is announced officially, Cassano will be back in the squad on January 1.

Pastore pens €60m Palermo contract

Javier Pastore announced he has extended his Palermo contract until 2015 with a €60m buy-out clause, but also warned “from 2012 onwards we’ll see.”

El Flaco has received numerous offers from the world’s top clubs, including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City.

President Maurizio Zamparini confirmed he had rejected a €50m bid from an undisclosed outfit this season.

“I am very happy here,” said Pastore after signing a new deal with a €60m buy-out clause.

“From 2012 onwards we’ll see,” he added.

The contract is worth just €0.8m per season to begin with, growing in connection with performance.

The deal gives Palermo security after investing in the 21-year-old talent, but also freedom to sell when the right offer comes along.

Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone remains “moderately satisfied” with the Antonio Cassano verdict and opens the door for a comeback.
The tribunal today ruled that the club could not terminate his contract for insubordination.

However, Cassano is suspended without pay from October 29 to January 31 and will then be paid only half his wages until the end of his contract in June 2013.

The player will also have to pay legal costs, but the President was not too upset with the outcome.

“After the decision that was taken, I can consider myself moderately satisfied,” said Garrone.

“It is clear that the tribunal confirmed the seriousness of what happened.

“Also certain is that this verdict leaves the door open to the possibility of reintegrating the player into the squad. I will talk about this aspect over the next few days.”

This is an important statement, as it suggests Samp could welcome Cassano back into the side and not necessarily put him on the transfer market
