Benitez: 'Let's all calm down'
Rafa Benitez has urged everyone to “take it down a notch and focus on football,” as he realises the full extent of the tension between Inter and Juventus.
The Derby d’Italia has always been a fiery affair, but the situation escalated after Calciopoli and there is currently another trial into the wiretapped phone calls.
“There is also rivalry in other countries, like Liverpool-Manchester United or Real Madrid-Barcelona,” said the Nerazzurri Coach.
“We have to take it down a notch and focus on football, especially off the field of play.”
It is a mine-field for the Spaniard, who was so close to sitting on the Bianconeri bench instead of Gigi Del Neri.
“There was a great deal of talk about this, but I have a lot of respect for Del Neri. I am proud to be the Inter Coach, now let’s talk about the future.
“Juventus are a strong side and changed so much over the summer. They are hungry for success and it’ll be a difficult game, but we have faith. We can beat anybody.”
Lucio and Diego Milito have recovered, but Goran Pandev, Javier Zanetti and Walter Samuel are not even in the squad for Sunday night’s match.
“We have to wait, as Pandev felt a bit of pain in his thigh, while Samuel underwent specialised training. The break for international duty will give Zanetti time to rest. All those in the squad list have trained regularly and are available to play.”
With Milito back in the side, will Samuel Eto’o move to a supporting role after his hat-trick against Werder Bremen in a favoured centre-forward role?
“Eto’o has quality and can make the difference. He has the chances to score in every game,” insisted Benitez.”
